Switching hardrives Ok I need a little insight on this. I have my computer(nothin too special) and i got Vista Ultimate installed on my 250gig HD. I also have its previous HD of like 30gigs with xp OS on it. I dont think i want to try dual OS on it but is it bad for my comp to manual switch HDs (so only one hooked up at a time) so i can have a computer on vista or on xp when i want?

If that does not help please write your hdd model (Usually on a sticker on top of HDD)
What size is the partition the installation detects?

if you have purchased legal copy of Vista, you will be having a Part Number on the Vista DVD. Call Microsoft Tech Support and provide them with this Part Number. they will get a new product key. This will work for you.

NEED WIZ"S HELP- CANT BOOT XP OR VISTA CD FROM DVD DRIVE

Hello,

I'll give a whack at this problem. I think the previous person meant blank drive NOT black drive (that doesn't make sense to me).
I would follow the previous persons in going to BIOS and making sure the first boot device is CDROM. My question to you is whether you've already done this or whether you need assistance with this process. If so, please tell me what computer model you have.

NEED WIZ HELP- UNABLE TO BOOT FROM XP OR VISTA FROM DVD DRIVE

first you must check your XP/Vista cd if it is bootable then open the bios setting change the first boot to CD ROM save and exit the bios insert CD wait for a second if the CD is BOOTABLE if so then follow the instructions of formating drive. But before you do that you must be sure that you have all the driver need to you PC for security you must use the black drive then install the XP OS.

Getting ERROR FOR OPERATING SYSTEM

This is because you have to change the boot sequence in the BIOS or setup of the motherboard. When you first turn on the computer you can see something like press DEL to enter Setup or F12 or F10 or F2 depending onyour motherboard. once you get into setup you will see either boot sequence or boot order. Set the CDROM as the first boot device. Then when you startup the computer again you will see PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD. proceed with pressing anything on the keyboard.

Need help

Backup all your data to a CD, or an online storage device such as http://skydrive.live.com/ (50MB Max limit), or search on google for "free online storage". Put in the Vista CD and restart your computer. Press F8 before Windows XP starts to load. Follow the steps to install Windows Vista. When it asks you, reformat your hardrive. WARNING: REFORMATING WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA, SO MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT DATA BEFORE. You will then have a clean install of Vista which will allow your computer to run much faster. From there, you can restore/download your files that you backed up.

Internal hd ata

If I am right on this one the 4600 can only take a 250gig hd But I was wondering if you could partion the HD to 236.7 gigs twice so the computer only recognizes the 236.7 gig hd you will see two drives in my computer once you do just format both partitions unless you have another hd and then you will see three drives just do the ones you installed or you may loose your operating system, I don't even know if that will work, but I think it is worth a try seems you already have the 500gig drive, can't hurt to try, I sure hope this help some what.,
