My 50 inch rca tv wont turn on

The set has a shutdown circuit with ties to voltage and current being drawn inside the set--

Common dead set issues include:

broken solder connections at or around the high voltage transformer

Shorted or bad parts on same board as transformer

Bad High voltage Splitter block or the High voltage transformer

Convergence problems which usually do not stop set from coming on.

I am getting 5 blinking red lights before going solid red; already replaced the projection lamp approx. 1yr. ago My Sony 50" KF 50WE610 model is about 7 yrs. old. Please give me some guidance

Hi dalposadas,

5 blinks of the standby led lights is an error code for no high voltage coming from the ballast board.
You have to check first if the supply voltage from the power supply is present feeding the ballast board. If yes, you have to replaced the ballast board. High chance that the fault came from it but you need to confirm it by the presence of the voltage from the power supply.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

My Sony KP 51W520 won't come on. The standby light flashes 10 times. I read through the other people's problems listed here and everyone else has had either 3 blinks or 9. Any thoughts?

Hi.
it seems that your power supply or high voltage section is failing. Look for PWM IC genarator. MCZ 3001D on Power supply and near high voltage section. Try to replace these IC's.

Our TV has sound but no picture. Is there a reset button? Could this be a problem with the lamp?

suzy arata,

This unit has CRTs and does not have a lamp. Most likely you have a problem in the high voltage section. This can be checked with my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4916941-diagnose_repair_projection_tv_high which explains the problem although it was written with a dead set in mind. It also tells you where to get the best price on parts. There is an outside chance that you could have a video drive issue. This problem would be on the other board (not the board with the high voltage). There really isn't a way for you to troubleshoot this board. If you do not find any problems in the high voltage circuit I would replace the small signal board. Available from http://www.encompass.com.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

I have a Panasonic 53" PT-53x54- 53" turns on for 5 seconds then

It is very common for the high voltage tranformer or flyback to wear out and not provide adequate power to the tv. You can test them with an ohmmeter to see how much powrer is being sent to the main circuit board. You can get parts at tigerdirect.com

This looks like a problem with the Hv Voltage section of the TV set. What you need to do is to measure the voltage from the HV transformer to the Anodes of the CRTs with a high voltage probe, or have this done by a qualified TV technician.

Or check the voltage test points on the HV / Horizontal board. This will determine if the section is working or not (most likely not). Make sure you have a schematic, and multimeter and a high voltage probe.

I would suggest that if you do not have a background in electronics that you have a qualified electronics technician who knows TV take a look at your set and perform these test.

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

Getting my tv crisp and fixing hdtv

check to see if set appears to have a slight high voltage arc or corona discharge that is causing interference to other televisions. This arc is also causing problems in the video circuit which is why the tech and the customer are seeing it on the screen of this television. Tech needs to isolate the High voltage block, and CRT from possible suspect by one by one disconnecting them from the high voltage source. The only indicator the tech can use is another television and look for the interference to disappear, since the Sony will not allow the raster to appear if any one of the tubes is disconnected. After the test the it was determined the flyback was causing the problem. The radiated noise reduced but was did not disappear. It was recommended to replace the "G" board since the unit was covered under the SAYS program.. The G board corrected the symptom.
