Question about Garmin n?vi 265WT Car GPS Receiver

Formatted on WINxp

I hooked up my gps to the computer to charge. Went to click eject, accidently hit format. Rather than unplug it, and ruin it, I let it complete the format. Now it wont connect to any satellites, and the menus are different. Does anyone have a solution!? Thanks.

Do you know what exact files should be in there? There are only 2 folders, and about 6 files on the drive. I've looked all over online, an no one has anything posted about it.

  • blackberry84 Jan 08, 2009

Main file is Garmin, which as 2 folders & 2 files. Folders of DIAG & GPX. Files of Garmin Device & GUPDATE.GCD. In DIAG, file is sys_log. In GPX, file is Current.gpx.

You have erased the map file ("gmapprom.img") and the base map ("gmapbmap.img") and updating WILL NOT restore those. Additionally, they are locked to your device so you can't copy them from a friends device. gmapprom.img is about 1 - 1.3 GB. Its huge.

You need to send it back to Garmin to get reloaded I think.

You may be in luck
go to this webpage and download webupdater

keep your fingers crossed. basically that is an external hard drive... when you format it.. you erase everything... apparently that has partitions in it as you didn't lose everything tho i suspect you did lose the maps

you basically deleted/erased all the maps when you formatted the gps... only thing i can suggest now is to obtain new maps for your area and reload them onto the gps.. quick way to confirm they are gone is to plug the gps into your computer... go to start ... my computer.... and you should see the gps as a drive. go into that and look for a folder that would contain your maps etc.

you should have alot more files then that and i'm actually surprised you have that after a format. you could contact garmin at the website i have provided you.... or... if you happen to know anyone with the same gps... copy all the folders from that onto yours. it may have a serial number issue but won't know that till you try it.

i would suggest it needs to be the same model... be that as it may go to the download manual section for your gps and select your model... on that first page it tells you what models the manual covers... if your friends is one of those it may very well work.

I had the "cannot use card" message. I tired

Are you formatting the card(s) in the camera AND ejecting the card before removing them from the computer. If you formatted the memory card in the computer the camera programing can not recolonize it. A new card right out of the package should be formatted in the camera it is to be used in. Some of my students are in a hurry and forget to eject they just unplug it and run, it can really make a mess of things. My suggestion is try and format the card a couple of times, it should come back to the camera and work for you.

Hi, have a cruzer titanium 8gb. Had it for over a year and been OK. Now just sits in the USB port & flashes about 8 times, pauses and the just repeats the flashing. Tried to open from 'my computer'...

You have lost all the data as it is. Unfortunately, you may have pulled the cruzer from the usb port by hand without using the EJECT Format. You should always EJECT a USB Dongle first to avoid STATIC Charge. Static erases the formatted device and washes away all data. In the Winter this condition is more active than when humidity is high. In many cases, the drive can not be formatted again.

I accidently erased very important pictures from my memory card. Is there anyway to get them back?

Yes, you can get deleted picture back if memory card has not been formatted and memory card has been formatted wither by camera or computer, then no chance to recover picture files.
Download Pandora File Recovery, its free software, install it in computer, hook you camera with computer and run Pandora file recovery, select memory card in drive list of Pandora program and let it recover deleted files.
Hope these info will help you.

Make sure the hold switch on the left side is set to off. Otherwise you won't be able to do anything with it. And ya, it took me a few hours to figure this simple little thing out.

Hi, by accident I delete some file from my sansa and it's not working now. Even my computer can't see it. I took the battery off and put it back and then is working just for a few seconds starting to...

Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the SanDisk website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.
