Thanks for the help but just spent 3 1/2 hr on the phone with HP...they were helpful but couldn't fix the problem....said it is microsoft problem and I have to remove SP3 and revert to SP2. Microsoft wants to charge me $130 for this service....so I'm trying to find someone to help with that.

It was too long ago and there would be too much to restore, although it was a good suggestion. I did consider doing just that.

Thanks "destiny" I tried your solution but when I get to the 96% screen there are no buttons for cancel....I hit escape a bunch of times and finally ended the program with the task manager, but still only have a printer...no fax installed.

I have now completed 27 hours of technical service with HP. I've had one tech twice from India, 2 techs from the Phillipines, and one tech from Canada. All have given it their best shot but gave up. The problems increased with each tech. The last on said I would have to uninstall and reinstall my XP with SP3. I have not done that as yet. All techs agree that the problem was in the software, the hardware is OK. However I can't scan or fax. I have tried the disc that came with the unit 9 times. It always stalls at 96%. I'm going to contact HP to return the unit and get a credit if possible. I'll let you know how that goes.

Your problem could be related to a driver or other file that is clashing with the HP one that's attempting to install.

I had this problem with Highpoint RAID card drivers... HP would overwrite the Highpoint ones and then vice versa.

The only solution in the end was to download the driver only package (not the basic or full installation) and install that instead. You may find that this resolves the issue but no promises.

I've had this problem in the past. When my printer has been off and I turn it back on, it tells me to insert the software to re-install. It goes to 96%, then I just keep hitting "Cancel" and it eventually goes to "Finish" and the software is installed. It sounds crazy, but it works. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

I recommend going to HP website and downloading the newest software, sometimes when you get a product, they update the drivers and software so fast you don't have them. If you are running Vista you will have to go to their site. Alot of issues are with Vista and compatibility. Get the drivers and software and that should fix it.

Did you try doing a system restore to a date before you installed the SP3?

Officejet 7410 installation fails when it gets to the driver installation on windows 8

Sounds as if the software driver is not correct. I'm sure you downloades the software from HP and when asked for which operating system you checked the Windows 8 option. Being a New OS the driver might be an issue. Look on the HP Officejet 7410 website and look for a troubleshooting/support section.

HI I have a HP officejet pro 7680 and a sony vaio laptop. I am trying to connect wireless but it says during install that it can not find the printer. We also have 4 other laptops that are connected to...

during install it should give you a option for manual get the ip number from the printer and add the ip manually ( press setup and go to networking on the printer) if that does not work then it is your security on the laptop blocking the printer being detected I suggest turn off all your security and then try

STEPS
+++++++
SETUP>>NETWORK>>RESTORE NETWORK DEFAULTS

SETUP>>NETWORK >>WIRELESS RADIO>>ON

CONNECT THE ETHERNET CABLE FROM THE ROUTER TO THE BACK OF THE PRINTER.

SETUP>>NETWORK >>PRINT NETWORK CONFIGURATION PAGE

INSTALL THE PRINTER
SELECT WIRED CONNECTION

Software loads but HP solution center won't open

I would recommend un installing "any" HP software first, then download and install the latest driver from HPs site. You could could also try running the installer with all startup apps disabled incase there is some conflicting software. You can do this by typing in "msconfig" from start > run. Once open select "selective startup" then uncheck "load startup items". If you resort to this be sure you have unintstalled all HP software first as some HP software does run at startup. Also be sure to re-enable the startup items after troubleshooting.

I want to setup the printer when I scan and it is connected to the network that it send it to the e-mail. thank you

Sending directly via smtp is not implemented in the Officejet pro L7590. Only the "bigger" models (7680 etc.) seem to have sending via smtp or storing via ftp or smb implemented in firmware. What I find extremely annoying about this: I'm missing this too, as I was mislead by the product description. This lack of functionality is not obvious from HP's product data sheet, which covers 7590, 7680 and 7780 at once.

With the L7590 your can only use some sort of HP Software on a PC.

But beware!

I wouldn't recommend installing any of HP's full featured software package on any pc that is further to be used in productive work!

HP's driver software and utilitys that comprise hundreds of megabytes to download are hard to install and much harder to clean up, if something went wrong.

On a old but fairly well running Pentium 4 machine the L7590 Software brought the system to a crawl just by running some obscure svchost background task that seems to monitor the MFC device.

Having lost tens of hours to the recovery of PCs that had HP's Windows software installed, I'd recommend setting up a linux server with a current version of hplip.

Please note, that with linux and hplip youd' have to write some scripts of your own, in order to "glue together" scanning via hplip and the sendmail command. I'haven't started this yet.

And with hplip you can not use the "send" button from the L7590 panel. So any action must be started on the pc. But hplip is far easier to install (and remove) and it doesn't seem to hog your cpu as much as that crappy, bloated HP Windows software.

Have a installation problem installing the officejet pro 7680. It comes up as a fatal error and "MSI.DOCPROC

I'd suggest removing all of the HP stuff from your system (may include a bit of directory diving and registry diving if needed).

Then, download the latest drivers from the HP website and install them.
