I have the original PS2 and I have never modified it. The light that is on at the front is the green light. You can hear it power up and making noises as if it is loading a disk; however, there is no picture.

Hi Cyberclash,

If your disc spins and seems to load up you have a bad Video output connector problem or bad A/v Cable. If your system does not boot up, the Motherboard is shot. Click on " REpair Directory" at the bottom of this screen and find a Playstation Repair shop to help you out. They will be listed under "Video Game Consoles" in the directory.

Are you hooked up to be on a channel? If so can you reconfigure it to be line in or an aux setting on the tv?

Video problem

I had a PS2 with a similar problem. your best bet is to find another cord and try it with your system. (Sometimes the cords just play out).

You said your screen is blurry though so it is most likely a bad connection between your cord and the port on your TV.

Lastly if you can\'t find another cord to try you can attempt to clean your own with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

Unfortunately if that doesn\'t work then your looking at problem with your motherboard. At that point your better off to go buy a still working PS2 then have your own fixed.

good luck

My PS2 wont turn on

is either the power cord plugged in all the way in back of the system, or is the switch on the back turned to on. This may work for ps2 non slim.

Well this might happen but not to worry. You can try out the steps yourself

  • You need to check that the input mode of the TV is just right for the connector in use on the playstation 3 computer entertainment system.
  • Check using another cable that is compatible with the PS2. Sometimes there might be a problem with the cable in use.
  • In few occasion the video settings on the play station 2 do not match those of the cable or TV in use. In that case there might not be pictures on the screen. If the screen goes blank, switch off the system.
  • After this, with only the PS2 and the TV connected, touch the systems' power button for more than 5 seconds to switch the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

When I plug system in, red light shows that system is receiving electrical power. However, system wont read game or turn on.

Causes: 1. You've made the wrong connection to your TV
2. You didn't make a connection to your TV
3. At worst, your TV isn't compatible with your PS2 (PAL/NTSC issue)

Remedy: 1. Check your connection with your TV. If you have a S-Video cable
connection for your TV and your PS2, check it properly so that
video cable from your PS2 is at the Video-in port in your TV. If
this doesn't work. Go to #3.
2. You probably got excited. =) Connect your TV to your PS2 by
following the instructions in your manual.
3. This is an issue. First, before buying a PS2, you should know
what type of TV you are using. It's either PAL or NTSC. PAL TVs
are most likely to be found in the European countries. As for
NTSC, it's the most common between the 2 and can be found in the
US and the rest of the world. Now, make sure that your PS2 is
compatible with your TV. Or else, you might get weird pictures
in your TV. And at worst, your TV might be damaged.

I need a printable version of how to hook everything up. Please. We have a PlayStaion2

  1. Place your ps2 in an area that will allow for plenty of airflow, and is relatively close to the television that you intend on hooking it up to.
  2. Step 2 Check your TV or monitor for available video inputs. The most common are composite cords, which come with a new PS2. This cord has one plug on one side, with the other side having three ends colored yellow, white and red.
  3. Step 3 Plug the single end of the video cord into the back of the PS2. Plug the other side of the cord into the corresponding colors in your video input on your television.
  4. Step 4 Plug the AC adapter (power cord), into the back of the PS2. The other side of the cord should then be plugged into the wall. A red right will appear on the front of the PS2, signaling that it is on standby mode, and receiving the required power.

Playstation 2

check the yellow plug from the ps2 in the back of the tv, make sure it looks all ok . try it in another Video in slot AV 2 or AV 3 e.c.t , also if you have a spare cord for the ps2 try that , a standard ps1 cord will do the job , and most of all make sure the cord is firmly in the back of the ps2 , i would say u need to replace the cord , if that dosent work you have a video card issue , which will mean off the the service centre, you could just take it into a game console repair store and let them try another cord for you , so that way you atleast know if you need to buy another one or not, or maybe a friends ps2 or ps1 cord,

good luck

PS2, no picture/sound, but disc is spinning

When you moved did you leave the cords plugged into the unit and just wrap them around it? If so, you broke the A/V jack and it will have to be resoldered or replaced. If not, then we'll have to go over some other options.
