Question about Polaroid FLM-3734B 37 in. LCD HDTV

Class action lawsuit

Are there enough of us to do this >? i have opened up a case. post here if interested ? I bought a Poloroid FLM-373B approx. 16 months ago after my family saved for quite awhile. When I turn it on now I get nothing but colored verticle lines across the entire set. When I called Poloroid for assistance I was told that my warranty had expired. Poloroid said that they could fix the set if I paid them $250.00 up front then they would have a repair person replace my control box. Then I could send the old control box back to them, at my expense, and depending on what they could salvage, they would send me any where from $20.00 up to $100.00 back. Unfortunatley for us we don't have that type of undedicated cash lying around so I guess we're back to saving for a replacement. I do know that I will never purchase another Poloroid product again. Thanks for listening to my gripe.

Yes, I definitely have the same problem and I'm pissed!!! We got our Polaroid 37" from Wal-mart 18 months ago also and just get a blue screen now!!!! They want $250 for a new control panel and don't want to hear anything else about it!!! Bull!!! I would love to join the action suit against them or call a tv station and get 7 on our side!!!

  • dwink2u Jan 13, 2009

Same here but ours lasted 22 months! If you paid with a credit card, check their policy on "extended warranty". My credit card doubles the manufacturer warranty. Get this - I couldn't find my receipt so we went ahead and paid $300 + $80 to ship back to them (!) to get a refurbished TV. I found the receipt today - 3 weeks after the warranty was covered! No 1,000.00 TV should go out within 2 yrs. PERIOD!

I have the same problem, but they tell me the part is backordered and i will have to wake. this is the second time i had this problem

  • nnaugher8212 Jan 19, 2009

Polaroid TV 37" cost $1495.00 blue light would come on, that's it. Unplugged it to activate it for over a week and finally it would come on. One day it took me 4 hrs to get it on. Last day, it didn't work at all. They sent a tech and charged me $225.00. The tech didn't fix it...would call in 24-48 hrs...it's been a week, still no word on what they plan to do.

  • minner81082 Jan 22, 2009

Yeah, I guess I'm lucky. My 37" Polaroid has lasted 24 months and I paid just over $1,000 for it at Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, it is now giving me the black screen, blue light and nothing else. It looks like the best I can do is take it to a TV repair shop and spend another $250. Polaroid has got to know that this product in totally bunk.

  • Anonymous Jan 31, 2009

Horrible product, complete waste of money needs to be a recall.

  • tbwinley Feb 02, 2009

Mine just starting doing the same thing. The blue light comes on indicating it is powered up, but the screen is black. I have to unplug/plug it in to get the POLAROID screen to boot up.

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2009

I have the same problem. I called Polariod and they told me to ship the TV back to Calf. (at my cost) and for $300 they would ship me a "new" refurbished TV. I don't think so.... I pulled the control box apart and removed the Power Supply. I found (2) 1000 microfarad capacitors had burned out. It works but I keep a fan blowing on the T.V. at all times

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2009

Yea my t.v is about 23 months old .and now the blue light comes on but no pic.

  • tlapray Feb 26, 2009

I have the same problem with my 37" Polaroid... 20 mos. old only a blue light and no sound or picture. I paid $900 at walmart, cost is too high to fix and unit just sits in storage... WORTHLESS! The funny thing is that I have resorted to my 13 yr old off brand television that has never had a single problem... and I only paid $160 for it new. Something has got to be done!!!

  • tbugger452 Mar 01, 2009

We are having the same problem, blue light comes on, but no picture! This television is less than 2 years old. With todays economy, dont feel like wasting $800 + dollars to buy a new one, but what do you do???

  • mattyt21 Mar 03, 2009

I have had the same problem as everyone else with a 42 in. TLX-04240B and would be happy to get involved with the class action lawsuit.

  • mickl002 Mar 07, 2009

I am having the same problem. got it two years again and now no picture but sound. I turn it off at the power source and I am luck that it might work when I turn it back on after letting it sit for a few hours. Please contact me at mickl002@yahoo.com

  • Anonymous Mar 10, 2009

We also have a 37 in. blue light black screen, I have been unplugging it from the back waiting and plugging it back it and it eventually will come back on. I called customer support of course our warranty is out. So will keep doing until the damn thing goes out completely. What a joke, NOT happy.

Would be happy to join class action lawsuit.

37" LCD. Blue light on. No picuture or sound. Looks like a defective problem to many with so many individuals having the same problem. Lawsuit sounds great to me. I'have mine about 2 years.

  • bizzum Mar 12, 2009

Same issue... 2 years exactly. Got replacement control box, still nothing. Complained for a week until I got a replacement for the replacement and it powers up but with purple lines all over it. Worst quality and worst support I've ever dealt with.

  • w35062 Mar 16, 2009

Unfortunately, I purchased three of these televisions and two of them have died on me so far. I am still under my 2 year warranty but I can't find my receipt from WalMart where I purchased the tv's. WalMart does not maintain copies of the receipt but just keep registered digital logs of purchases, which Polaroid says they won't accept. I can't believe a company can get away with this; there should be some type of lemon law that protects consumers from manufactureres like Polaroid and retailers like WalMart who keep distributing there junk products. I am all in for anyone who ever opens a Class Action Lawsuit against either on of these companies...

  • bigrepp61 Mar 17, 2009

2 year old 37" widescreen that when turned on shows no picture... i have to un-plug up to 15 times to get the picture to come on and now it doesnt come on at all after like 45 minutes of trying i gave up... i was told to pay 200 some dollars for a tech to come out... i dont have the money and from what ive been reading alot of other people have the same problem... im in for a class action..

  • joanvoo Mar 19, 2009

I have a Polaroid HDTV LCD 37 in. FLM-373B flat screen tv. It has been making a buzzing noise for about 6 months now but after 15 minutes of "warming up" it stops. Also, the screen sometimes does not come on. Other times I just have vertical stripes going down my screen and I have to unplug the TV to "reboot" it and make it work. I am with you on the lawsuit. This TV is a piece of garbage. I bought the TV on 10/06 from Walmart. Today is 3/19/09

What a piece!!!! I have the same problem and for a while unplugging and plugging helped. I had an extended warranty but of course it expired just a few months ago. Imagine that Polaroid! Anyway, I am a single mom and am wondering where I get these parts? I can dismantel and reassemble (that is not my problem as I am quite capable. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I will never buy Polaroid again and will never recommend them to anyone.

We bought Polaroid HD TV (FLM-373B) 26 months ago. We now have a loud buzzing sound when it's turned on, as well as horizonal lines in the picture. Called customer service, got the same response. Since it was out of warranty, $260 for a used panel with no warranty. The Polaroid rep. told me that the failure rate on there TV's is only

2-3 %. The best part is we just replaced the mother board in a newer Polaroid 32" HD TV (1 month past warranty). Cost-$225. If failure rate is only 2-3 %, what's the odds that I bought 2 of them? 10,000 to 1? Maybe I should play the lottery?

  • xDirtnutx May 15, 2009

File a complaint w/ Better Business Bureau. I did. I have had a FLM3734B for 2 1/2 years. 6 months in had the board replace because the lcd screen went all red. Now 2 years after repair loud noise on start up. Called and the same as the rest 225 dollard to get board. I ordered new capacators to try to fix myself. Im am electronicly savy so we will see. I have found a lot of help here http://www.fixya.com/support/r741402-pol... will post again when I attempt fix.

  • gjsbooks May 11, 2010

I am willing to go in on a class-action suit!

I tried the capacitor fix and it didn't help. But my original ones were not bulged-- thought I'd try it anyway.

There is more than 1 problem with this TV then... if your capacitors aren't bulged, your problem lies elsewhere (boy that sounded kinda dirty!)

Hey, just get new capacators, thats what I did and it works fine now, and worked for lots of others as well. Only cost 25 bucks all together, its worth a try.

I am extremely interested in being a part of the lawsuit. With my TV, only the sound comes on and from what I hear, its only a matter of time before the whole thing goes out.

Since the tv is 16 months and if you dont have extended waranty coverage its useless. it is upsetting but dont waste your time being frustrated or waste money to file a case. theres is no posible way to win after 16 months of you enjoying the tv. now your screen is still good this is the valueble part of your tv. if parts and repair are only 250. its a reasonable price.
some companies charge 85$ just to come out and check it. if your stressed for cash try getting the parts online or at auctions and then it will cost you less, then you can pay polaroid just to exchange the part but this is just an option.
good luck hope this helps

Class action lawsuit Philips Defective tvs

Philips TVs **** - whoever said "Just buy a new power board fix ur tv" obviously works for Philips - again, Philips has horrible products that break and no customer service. Everyone that has ever purchased a Philips TV complained about it online. I wish I knew before I bought the piece of broken **** sitting in my living room.

Class action lawsuit

Just wondering if anything has been done about this class-action lawsuit. It shows this post as being 2 years old but if it is in process I would definitely consider joining it. My set lasted just over a year and I have had nothing but trouble ever since. Most of the same problems listed here. Blown capacitors, not able to get power, can't hook into home theater system, etc. Please let me know if there is a way to do something. This TV is a piece of s___t and should have been recalled a long time ago.
