This is a brand new toner. Sealing tape broken when pulling from the toner before using. How can I remove the seal without the pulling strip? Dismantle the toner???

  • Anonymous Nov 21, 2012

Thank you for your response. I know this is an option. However, the cost of returning and replacing another toner is greater than buying a new one. I'm just thinking are there any other way to remove the strip stuck inside.

If any scraps of the strip are left over then try pulling it out with pliers etc. If not the strip is likely to be stuck in there. In which case I would recommend contacting your retailer.

I was able to use some very strong tape cut about the same width, slide it as far as possible onto the broken strip then fold the other end of tape into the the other side of broken strip(essentially sandwiching the piece, then slowly wiggle and pull the added tape

The sensor that senses the Cartridge may be blocked by toner residue. Clean it then reinstall the new toner cartridge.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy New Year!

SOURCE: Red doesn't print

This is a common problem with ALL of the variants of this printer that have had either a lot of pages printed, or particularly had a few leaky cartridges in them.

The problem here is not with the toner cartridge, (you'll get this with ANY cartridge you use), and your magenta cartridge will work fine in another printer (which was working properly.

The problem is dirty lenses/mirrors in the laser unit. It's quite an involve job to get to the laser unit, and even when you do get it out, you need to be extra careful when you dismantle it to clean it, otherwise you'll either scratch a surface silvered mirror, or disturb the alignment of some component.

Safest bet, if you are not sure of your mechanical abilities, is to replace the whole laser unit, or go for an exchange reconditioned printer.

Carol, Did you remove the sealing tape? There should be a small orange tab on the left side of the toner. Its integrated with the toner cartridge and easy to miss. Flip that tab over and pull. It will pull out the protective tape.

Seal tape from toner cartridge tore

prining invoices to letterhead, your laser printer is an integral part of your company's computer system. The device's ink is stored in one or more toner cartridges that are replaceable - a single black cartridge, if you have a laser printer that only prints black, or three color cartridges along with a black cartridge if the laser printer prints both color and black. The cartridges are available at office supply, retail and warehouse stores. Like inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges contain a strip of sealing tape that keeps the powder ink from spilling out until you are ready to install the cartridge.

1Remove the toner cartridge from its packaging, if the cartridge is still in its box, and shake the cartridge from side to side to evenly distribute its toner.

2Hold the cartridge away from your body so ink won't spill onto your clothes or shoes. Grab the cartridge's sealing tape on the side of the cartridge and pull the tape firmly away from the cartridge. The sealing tape contains a plastic end piece for grasping it, usually in a different color than the toner cartridge.

3Continue pulling the sealing tape until it is completely out of the cartridge. Place the cartridge close to your printer or on a surface nearby until you are ready to install it. Dispose of the sealing tape in a trashcan or bag; try not to get any toner present on the tape on your hands or clothing.

Toner supply failed, remove seal tape from toner cartridge and reinstall

The cartridge inside the printer that holds the dry toner could be empty.

Or, if you have just replaced the toner cartridge, you forgot to remove a piece of "sealer" tape from the cartridge. Remove the cartridge from the printer. Remove that tape from the cartridge. Re-insert the cartridge. Try again.

I am using the workcentre 4150 and the printer keeps giving me an error saying. "toner supply failed, remove seal tape from toner cartridge and reinstall" I can't find any tape on toner...

The seal tape might be inside the cartridge, attached to a pull-tab.

I am only specifically familiar with the HP toner cartridges, which have a colored plastic pull-tab attached to the tape which seals the toner drum during transit. You have to pull on the tab which in turns yanks the sealing tape out after it.

Each HP cartridge has a small instruction sheet included which shows the location of the pull-tab. Perhaps your Xerox cartridge came with a similar diagram sheet?

After the "Toner Life End" message appears, it refuses to printeven one more copy. Offensive...until you show it who's in charge.

Remove the cartridge and find 2 clear plastic port holes, one oneach side. The printer shines a light through these to decide when toshut you off. But it's too sudden and too early.

Cover one or both windows with a small piece of masking tape. I get about 3400 copies per cartridge instead of 2400.
