Question about IBM ThinkPad 600X Notebook

Laptop is not responding

I was working on my laptop when it suddenly went blank - am unable to reset it using the power button. It is totally unresponsive.

Perhaps the motherboard is damaged? If the motherboard is damaged does that mean that all the data cannot be recovered?

Check your AC adaptor and make sure the're securely connected to each end - to the power outlet, strip or to the laptop jack. If its on a power strip try power cycling the strip by turning off and on. Try using another known good power outlet or if not try pluging in another known good device to see if it powers up. Take out battery and just plug in the ac power

If you plug it in to another good outlet and still you dont see any power lights ( green light, blue lights, etc. ), fan or hd boot

1) Try holding down the power button for 5 secs. Let go and try to turn it on again. This is a signal that bypasses the OS and tells the motheboard to power down. This helps if the computer is actually still running but with no display.
2) If that does not work, unplug the computer, remove the battery and leave it at for 1 min. Replace the battery, plug it in and try to turn it on again. Corrupt data in RAM can cause problems like yours, this clears out the RAM so you start fresh.

If the above did not help it might be your motherboard. A bad motherboard does not usually damage your data. You can remove the hard drive and put it in a portable hard drive enclosure (about $30), the enclose plugs into a USB slot in a working computer and shows up as another hard drive.

Check to make sure your power is ok, I ran into a situation where the power bar was accidentally turned off and then the battery ran down.

My HP laptop was working fine, and then suddenly the screen went blank. When I reboot, the power light stays on and you can hear the hard drive spinning, but the screen stays blank.

Hi,

unhook all usb cables and power cable, take out battery. Hold down Power button for 60 seconds, which will get rid of all static electricity. Plug in all cables again and check.

If still facing problem there will be some connection issue inside the lap.
Please let me know whether this works or not.

• 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
• 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
• 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS.
hat will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
Replace your battery.
Restart!.

Sounds like a bad motherboard if the system just failed and now you can get nothing to happen. One way to check this is to take a monitor from a desktop and plug it into your computer and power on your computer and see if anything happens if nothing happens then replace your motherboard

Check the ac adapter is the proper one for that laptop. Check the power jack is not damaged or loose. let laptop site without battery or power for a few hours. remove battery and retry power. try another ac adapter if that doesn't work, you may have a reset button but not likely to solve the problem. sounds like motherboard is damaged, or something blew.
