Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Ink smudge on corner of brochure paper

This only happens with my brochure paper... Brochures, of course, have to come out pristine! It didn't always happen, but has for the last 20 brochures I've tried... Have sent hundreds of other papers through the machine since this began, many heavy stock, and it only happens with the brochure... The very top corners (where it feeds into the machine) gets a black smudge on it. Sometimes one side-edge will get a faint black smudge-line. A. What's a good way to clean the rollers B. What else could it be? C. Why in the heck does it only happen with brochure paper? Thanks for your help, Skylake

Check for any small paper jam. Check the rollers, also use an alcohol swab to clean the rollers and check for ink leaking. Check you ink pad, it could be time for a new one.

Doesn't print on cardstock

Inkjet should always prints no matter what type of printing material you use since they only spray inks (laser will be different). Even if it is not compatible you will still see inks / smudge all over the surface. Try check your actual colour againts the paper it might be too similar hence not visible.

Need help to print brochures

Yes, I think it's best to print brochures from some online printing companies out there, especially now that you're running out of time. You don't have to go all through the trouble. Just specify what you want to do with your brochures and they will take care of everything. You can go and check this site: Other than the gate fold option, they also offer other types of folding like half-fold, tri-fold, Z-fold, double-gate fold, double-parallel fold- and roll-fold.

How do I find an online manual for my Canon MX870 all in one printer.

Hi ruthgene,

You can download brochures and manuals for the PIXMA MP870 from Canon's website ( If you type "mx870" in the search box at the top of the screen, you'll see a "Brochures and Manuals" link listed under the printer.

Otherwise, you can go directly to the Brochures and Manuals page by following this link:

Hope this helps!

When I print a glossy photo print, right at the end the printer makes a noise as if its labouring and there are excess ink smudges on the corners of the print. It only happens when printing glossy paper.

i think the problem is with your print head. i have the same problem before. when i put out the print head to check. there's a lot of excess ink. this may be the reason for the ink smudges on the corners of your print. and when you set your printer to photo printing. it is programmed to put larger amount of ink than normal printing. the best way is to have your printer checked by your service center or change your printhead to a new one. goodluck!

There are black ink smudges on the bottom corners and edges of my color prints on velvet fine art paper. How can I stop that from happening. I already cleaned the heads twice. The prints are great...

The R2400 has an option to load paper on-top (Epson calls it the Automatic Document Feeder) and at the back. Based on the printer's User Guide the Velvet Fineart Paper should be loaded at the back. (Epson called is the Manual Single Sheet Feed).

Look at the User's Guide availabe on their website.

Blurry, Ink Smeared pages

If the media (glossy paper) is designed for an ink jet printer you should be fine.

Ink has to be able to be absorbed into the fibers of the page. If you are using paper for a laser color printer, that's your problem.

I don't think that this is a true Postscript printer and you may be asking too much of it.  When was the last time you aligned the printer?  I'd just go to Staples or Kinko's for the better quality work
