Question about Frigidaire Affinity ATF7000E Front Load Washer

12 Answers

Frigidaire washer shuts off in the middle of the cycle

It is not a specific time in the cycle it just shuts off intermitently. If we reset the circut break it starts again but nothing else on the circut is having issues. We have tried again to flip the break but now that no longer works.

    i don't think its a motor issue.

  • lender685 Jan 08, 2009

yes. Jumped it with a paper clip, plugged it back in but nothing happened. Changed the dial to a different setting but nothing.

  • lender685 Jan 08, 2009

It is a good possibility that the solenoid for the cold water has gone bad. Since the Cold and the hot are in the same bracket assembly, you will need to change both at once. A Sears parts department is a good source for a replacement. They will need your machine make, model and perhaps serial number to locate the appropriate replacement shutoff valve. It is always a good idea to take the old part with you since the person at the parts research desk may know less about what yu need than you do. Help them out with the old part as an example if you can. This usually helps to prevent return trips for the same repair part because the new one just won't fit where the original was.
I do not know your level of expertise, so just in case you are not versed in such things, the shutoff valve assembly is the part that the hot and cold hoses attach to on the washing machine.
Before removing, be sure to turn off the water valve feeding the hose. If might even be advisable to turn the machine on to bleed off the pressure in a fill cycle or you will make a mess when you unscrew the hoses.
ALSO: be extremely careful not to let the electrical circuits come onto contact with the water at all!
Safety first! It is hard to enjoy the repair of your washer if you should accidentally electrocute yourself in the process! BE CAREFUL!
    I hope this helps.

Cycle Not Advancing or Timer Stalling Symptoms Update...One root cause of washer stalling in cycle (timer not advancing) on horizontal axis washers is electrical noise generated primarily by the timer contacts opening and closing which can interfere with proper operation of the speed control board. At times, depending on ambient environmental conditions, this electrical noise can cause the motor controller board to receive corrupt signals and remain on 'stand by condition' resulting in the cycle not advancing. By manually advancing the timer to the next step in the cycle or by turning the washer's power off and on, the electrical noise is discharged and the washer will perform until electrical noise may happen to interfere once again.
To resolve this issue, three jumpers have been added to the current motor controller board to reduce electrical noise levels around the microprocessor. Testing has proven this change to the board significantly reduces occurrence of control lock-up. The newist motor controller board assembly is Part Number 134149220.

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Hi lender

If you open up the front door of the washer, should should be able to find a drain plug/filter beneath the door inside the machine. This collects all of the junk that is piling up and if this stuff becomes too great, the machine may start performing as you suggest. Clean this out and clean out the drain pipe and everything in between and you should have the machine back to normal.

Sounds like you have 2 possible problems. 1 could be as easy as the outlet going to the unit may be weak and not always making a good connection so the unit shuts off. try it in another outlet or even use an extension cord that is heavy enough to run the washer. usually a good outdoor type orange cord will work.
if that doesnt work then you may be having troubles with the control board. it could have a weak connection or a bad transformer causing the power to shut the unit off.
when the unit shuts off, and you were able to get it to run again, was it at the same place in the cycle or did you have to start a new cycle to get it to run?

i think the reason you are getting the wrong info is you posted this under a front load washer heading.
sorry but i just checked and you have a top load washer and that has totally different problems.

what i would guess now is that you are having problems with the lid lock and switch assembly. they are very well known for failing and when the switch gets weak it wont let the unit run. try to push a pencil or something in the hole in the top where the lid strike goes. hold it down and try to run the unit thru a spin cycle. you may not be able to gt it to run if the switch is completely bad now.
i would just go out and get a new switch and lock assembly and try that. i would bet you find thats what is wrong.
part number 134101800 about 50 bucks.

    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

after you take the 2 screws out of the bottom of your front panel, then pull the panel down and then out at the bottom. it has a kind of "keyhole" clip that will hold the front panel to the side panels. kind of hard to see but look between the front and sides and you can see them.

  • Tom Zwiebel
    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

i dont think you can re-post without paying again, but now that i know what you are working on i think we can get you fixed up.
by the way dont worry about cleaning out the pump it wont be need as i think your lid switch is the problem.

  • Tom Zwiebel
    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

how good are you with working with electricity? if you are confident that you wont get shocked then try this... your lid switch has 2 tan wires then you can jumper those 2 wires and that should make the unit think the lid is closed.
by jumper i mean to connect them together and that will connect the circuit that has failed in your lid switch. you need to unplug the unit then remove the wires from the switch, then put a jumper wire in the terminals to connect the 2 wires. then plug the unit back in and try it again. if it runs after that, then replace the lid switch.

  • Tom Zwiebel
    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

p.s. i do frigidaire warranty and am pretty sure whats wrong here. do not do the jumper trick unless you are confident that you will be safe. i do it when i am fixing them, but i am trained and know what not to touch. ie any bare wires.... just dont do the wire jumper if you are not sure.

  • Tom Zwiebel
    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

no your unit will run with the front panel off. did you try the jumper yet??

  • Tom Zwiebel
    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

well then i would check your washer outlet for power. make sure that you still have power by plugging in a light or something else to be sure the breaker hasnt failed. then if thats ok, you may have a timer problem. not much more you can do yourself after that.
i really would think its the lid switch but you did what you could to check that.

  • Tom Zwiebel
    Tom Zwiebel Jan 08, 2009

sometimes its the easy things we overlook. i would still think you could have a bad lid switch and that could cause the circuit breaker to trip, after enough trips the breakers can fail and not reset.
so now you need to do another post for.. how do i tell if my breaker is bad? LOL just kidding.
keep watching to see if the new outlet trips and shuts off, if so then i would change the lid switch.

This is probably a completely computer controlled unit... not old fashion timer that rotates during the cycle, right? ... If spin is fine I guess it narrows out the motor then... but this brings in the "master" control as one possible suspect, and the motor control is still in the equation as well.

The door lock mechanism should also be fine, as it allows spin, and does lock and unlock freely as it seems.

Any noises emitted before it goes off, that you find different from the normal function?

  • mohammed marika thambi
mohammed marika thambi Jan 08, 2009

Once you advance the timer it goes through the cycle quickly filling and draining but the wash motor never engages.
that be the fuse to check. if you are good at controlboard refurbishing solder in a new fuse if it's open.

  • mohammed marika thambi
mohammed marika thambi Jan 08, 2009

Most likely a motor going bad or something causing a drag on the motor,
could be something in the blower wheel, drum rollers dragging

  • mohammed marika thambi
mohammed marika thambi Jan 08, 2009

    1. Check the power:

Advance the timer knob to the drain increment. If the drain pump does
not run, check household safety circuit. If the drain pump runs go to
    step 2.

    Done, drain pump is running.

    2. Check for Motor Movement:

Turn the water off to the washer. Remove electrical power from the
washer and remove the back panel. Remove the motor drive belt.
Reconnect electrical power and set the timer to the start of the
Regular wash cycle and pull the knob out. If motor does not rotate,
check for a poor connection in the timer line switch or door lock
switch. If good, and motor does not run go to step 3.

Done, motor is running when the timer is set to the Heavy Wash position of the Regular was cycle only.

    3. Measure Voltages:

Remove the six pin plug from the speed control unit. Measure the
voltage between pins 5 and 6 of the harness. If the meter reads 0 check
the connection in the timer line switch or door lock. If the meter
reads 120 Vac go to step 4.

    Done, meter reads 120 Vac.

    4. Set the timer to the Heavy Wash position of the Regular wash cycle.
Remove the ten pin plug from the speed control unit. Measure the
voltage between pins 1, 2, 6 and 10 of the ten pin plug to pin 5 of the
6 pin plug on the harness. The voltage at pins 2, 6 and 10 should read
120 Vac and 0 Vac at pin 1.

Done, but the result is different. Pins 1 and 10 showed 120 Vac but
pins 2 and 6 showed 0 Vac. There is no cable at pin 2 of the ten pin
    plug on the harness.

If not, check timer contacts 1C to 1B, 5C to 5B, and 7C to 7B for
closed contacts, and 3C to 3B for open contacts. If the voltage readins
are correct, go to step 5.

Not done, because of the different result on previous step.

Why is the ten pin plug harness different than the technical spec?

    5 Measure Resistances:

Check the fuse on the speed control board. If the fuse is open, replace the speed control board. If good, go to step 6.

Not done, but I assume it is good because the motor is running.

    6. Remove the 6 pin plug from the speed control unit. Measure the
resistance between pins 1 and 2, 2 and 3, and 3 and 1 of the speed
control unit. If the meter reads other than 3 Meg ohms + 10%, replace
    the speed control board.

    7. Remove electrical power from the washer. With an ohmmeter check the
resistance between pins 1 and 2, 2 and 3, and 3 and 1 of the six pin
plug on the harness. If the meter reads other than 2.6 ohms + 7 %,
    replace the motor

You may have a short in the washer causing the machine to run and shut off to prevent any other damage to the unit. You will need to get a professional out there and have them run a diagnostic test on the machine to figure out where the short is in the system. If you keep trying to run the unit you may damage the unit more than what is already damaged.

I have a top load frigidaire affinity washer. Lately it seems to shut off mid cycle or sometimes run through the wash cycle while skipping some steps. Is there a way to reset the computer?

Hey, I understand that you are having some problems with your Frigidaire Top Load Washer. From what you have described it sounds like there could be something going on with the control board. Before contacting a service provider, I would recommend resetting the washer by turning off the power to the appliance for about five minutes. After the five minutes return power to the appliance, this should allow the appliance to return to working condition. At this time if you find the problem still persists, you may want to consider contacting a professional technician. The concern could be the control board. Hope this helps! -JK

My Frigidaire washer, GLTF2940FS1, has stopped in the middle of a cycle. I can eventually get it to start again, but it stops within a minute or two. Is there anything I can try before calling for a r

Hey friend, thanks for your inquiry!

I see that your Frigidaire washer, GLTF2940FS1, is stopping multiple times within the cycle. It sounds like a potential issue with your control panel of door latch assembly. You should perform a reset on your appliance by unplugging or flipping the household circuit breaker for ten minutes.
If that does not help correct the issue I would advise you to seek technical assistance from a professional for proper diagnosis and repair. This would help avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Best of luck! -Matt

I HAVE A FRIGIDAIRE AFFINTY LAFW7000LWO WHEN DOOR IS SHUT THE DOOR SENSOR STARTS

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the door sensor goes off on your Frigidaire Affinity washer, model# LAFW7000LW0, when the door is shut. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Sometimes there can be a miscommunication between the different boards inside your appliance. Restore power and start any cycle. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Washer just shuts down

If the washer is turning off mid cycle then the problem most likely has something to do with the draining or the filling.

First check the drain hose is not to far down the standpipe. If it is to far down then the water might siphon out during fill. The water would fill and drain at the same time. One cycle I would like you to try is the "Rinse Only" cycle. This is a simple, short cycle that should just fill once, drain and spin. If the washer will do this then the major components are most likely okay.

Make sure the water drains out and let me know if the drain pump is the source of the noise you hear.

Dr is flashing. The error code is E41. How do I correct the error code. Door is closed. Started flashing in the middle of cycle.

Hello, welcome to FixYa. I understand you have a Frigidaire washer with an error code E41, correct ? Can you reply and include the complete model number ? This will let me speak specifically about your washer instead of generalizing...which can be fine, but specifics are always better. I'll watch for your reply and go from there. Thank you. Regards, Macmarkus :)
