Zoom 5241 modem keeps resetting. Is it dying or ?

I have a Zoom 5241. Have had it for at least a few years. About a month ago I kept losing my internet connection ...the modem keeps resetting. Power light always stays on. But every 15 to 30 minutes all lights except the power light go off and then it resets. I can access the internet just fine when it's working and not resetting. But like I said, every 15 - 30 minutes I lose internet access and the modem resets. Then its fine for the next 15/30 minutes. Not using a router. Ethernet cable direct from modem to desktop. Is my modem dying or is it something with Charter? Don't really have the money for a new modem so I don't want to buy one unless I'm sure that is the problem. Anyone? Thank you.

SOURCE: I have the Zoom X6 (5590) DSL Modem, trouble using software

You may check the following:

1. Make sure to plug the power cube into a power strip or wall outlet and then plug the power cube's other end into the modem's power (PWR) jack.

2. You should only use the power cube with the Zoom X6. Other power cubes may damage your hardware.

3. Try another wall outlet.

4. Reset the modem. Use a paper clip and insert it into the RESET pinhole in the modem's back panel and press it 3 times. Then turn off the modem for a minute and turn it back on. Check if the power light will turn solid green.

5. Possible defective modem.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Zoom 5241 modem keeps resetting

If your Zoom 5241 modem is constantly resetting, it could indicate a problem with the modem itself or with the internet connection.
Some common causes of this issue include:
  • A malfunctioning modem: The modem may be malfunctioning due to a hardware failure or a software issue.
  • Overheating: The modem may be overheating, causing it to shut down and reset.
  • Power Surge: A power surge could have damaged the modem and causing it to reset.
  • Firmware issue: The modem's firmware may be outdated or corrupted, causing it to malfunction and reset.
  • Incorrect configurations: The modem may not be configured correctly, which can cause it to reset.
  • Line noise: Interference on the phone or cable line can cause the modem to reset.
You can try to resolve this issue by following these steps:
  • Check the modem's power cord and make sure it's plugged in properly
  • Try a different power outlet
  • Try a different cable to connect the modem to the wall outlet
  • Try a different cable to connect the modem to the computer
  • Unplug all other devices from the phone or cable line
  • Try to update the firmware of the modem
If the problem persists after trying these steps, it would be best to contact your internet service provider (ISP) for further assistance, or take the modem to a professional repair shop for further diagnosis and repair.

For diagnostic purpases I need to obtain the IP adrress of my Zoom 5241 cable modem. My Asus router IP is 192.168.1.1. I recently purchased this modem to save rental fees on the modem that Comcast...

Just use command prompt, at the 1st moment when you connect your router, no matter LAN, USB or wireless/blue tooth or even HDSPA modems connection it will assign itself a port on your machine, to check what ip adress your Zoom 5241 cable modem got, go to Start, then run then type CMD for command prompt screen and in the console, type ipconfig/all on list you will find your router, simply find "default gateway" part and use that local adress xxx.xxx.xyz.xyz.

When i plug my Zoom 5241 Modem in all lights come on the go off and nothing works... It just started yesterday and i have had it for 3 years and nothing has changed in the network... Is it dead?

Well it might be dead - try these two steps:

1. Unplug the modem and leave it unplugged for at least a minute, then plug it back in.
2. If that does no good, try the RESET button on the back, using a paper clip or pen point. The reset will probably only work while the lights are still on - so try to press in the button pretty quick.

Thanks - Sam

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..
