Computer turns on but monitor stays blank.

Hi

I've got this computer 2 days ago and it was working fine in till, today. When you turn on the computer the blue light flashes but the monitor just flashes on and off , like when you have to move the mouse, which wont work same with the keyboard. The monitor screen just stays black. Please any suggestions, what do I do?

Sounds like you have either a video card problem, monitor problem .. or just the video cable isn't connected to the video card properly

It appears you have a video card problem ... And that video is integrated so it requires a motherboard change .. If this unit is less than a year old you have a warranty .. Contact HP and get it fixed

You may want to consider buying a PCI or PCIExpress video card and installing that .. According to the specifications you have those slots in the system available

Check the simple stuff first since it is new. Cord is plugged into the wall and and into the computer snug. Press the on button on your monitor, try hitting the FN+F5 and FN+F6 each a couple of times those switch what the monitor does. Try plugging it into a different wall socket to make sure you are getting power.

My lap top was working fine yesterday , but when i went to turn it on today the startup said to use "run in safe mode " or others options similar to that , i chose one , & it still didn't...

Hi, sorry to hear you are having problems. 1. Start up your desktop as normal but as soon as it starts keep pressing the 'F8' key. 2. You will have a black background with white writing on and lots of options. 3. Use the up and down arrow keys and select last known good configuration, then press the enter key to select it. philswift_4.jpg
Your computer should start up. If you have a blank screen, do you hear the fans whirring and see lights on the front? If so then your computer works but is not sending s signal out to the monitor. Check all cables to make sure they are securely connected. If you still have no image. Swap your monitor for a friends one that you know works. This will test if it is your monitor that has failed. If you see an image on your friends you will need a new monitor or new monitor cable. If you do not see an image on your friends monitor and your PC has lights and fan whirring then you need to get a new graphics card. If you have no lights and no fan whirring it is outside the scope of this and we need some more information as it could be 1. Failed power supply 2. Failed memory 3. Blown motherboard 4. Failed processor
Please report back with answers to 1. Do you hear fans whirring? 2. Do you see a power light/led light up? (in example pic it is green) 3. Do you see the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) LED/light flash at all? philswift_5.jpg

Many thanks for your information
Phil

Computer monitor don't work at all.

So basically your monitor's power supply system died.
Nothing much a non-technician could do about it.
Get it repaired, if under warranty, get a replacement before the coverage duration expires.

Blank screen after turning computer on

Sounds like onboard video might have gone out. 2 suggestions, if the system is still underwarranty, send in for repair. If not, suggestion would be to open the case, and confirm type of slots AGP, PCI, PCI Express, and purchase a video card on the type to install.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Video problem on my Dell Dimension 4600 PC, HELP ASAP.

the resolution set by default when you load your graphics driver is outside the range of your monitors capability.

try starting in safe mode then adjust your resolution to 640 by 480 then restart.
if this works, adjust upwards to 1024 by 768
then up again till the screen blanks.
when it does, dont panic, wait 20 seconds and the settings will restore - you then have the optimum settings for your monitor.

good luck
