It sounds like your camera is not being turned on. If you are using SKYPE to connect with family, after you connect up with them you can turn on the camera so they can see you. If you don't use Skype, its a free download and free to converse by computer without paying. You probably already know that. It only costs if you call a telephone number.

SOURCE: 1.3 mega built in smartcam not able to hear

SOUNDS LIKE WHAT YOUR FAMILY HAS MAY HAVE BAD SPEAKERS, SPEAKERS NOT PLUGED IN OR TURNED UP. IF THEY CAN SEE YOU AND YOU CAN SEE AND HEAR THEM IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WOULD BE ON THEIR END. CHECK THEIR SPEAKER PLUG INS AND VOLUME THAT MAY BE AN EASY SOLUTION

I have the emachinesE627 laptop and would like to know if it has a built in webcam

It should have a built-in webcam according to the eMachine website.
Go to "Product Views", then "Inside View" on the website. Follow this link to the website:

Built in webcam cannot detected by its software

Make sure the program that your using doesn't have the camera offline.

Then if the driver installed properly and you see the camera listed in the device manager then the next step would be to open up the LCD. You'll need to turn off the laptop.

Take the rubbers off of the lcd bezel then unscrew the screws out of there. Take off the lcd front bezel and this will expose the screen and also expose the built in webcam. Make sure the connector for the webcam is actually plugged in. You might have to reseat the connector or best thing is disconnect it and then reconnect it back.

Now go ahead and turn it on and use the webcam program and see if it works, if it still doesn't work then the built in webcam is bad.

Using my built in webcam

Normal 0 First, download SKYPE from this site ( http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/beta/ ) and install it. Then let all your family and friends know you’re on Skype and give them your ID. After they get on Skype and you know their ID's add them to you Contacts in Skype. After you connect up with them you can turn on the camera on so they can see you. Skype is a free download and free to converse by computer without paying and several people at a time.. It only costs if you call a telephone number from your computer while on Skype. Once you get the hang of it , you will enjoy it.

Hope this helps, Bud.
