It sounds like one of the boards has shorted out on it. i would take it in and have a diagnostic run on it to see where the problem is but it does sound to me that when the power got interupted you got a surge and shorted something out on one of the boards

This is a power supply problem, if you have a spare power supply that you can connect to this unit try that one so we can check if it will be working fine, lets just hope its not the Motherboard that is bad...

Unplug it from power for ten minutes, if it does not restart , you need to have power supply replaced.

G4 power light flashes

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.

If neither of these processes do not work, have your RAM memory checked, as this could be a factor in your G4 not booting up.

One other factor to consider, especially given consideration of the flashing light and no boot up, depending on the type of G4 mac you have, would be the power supply, which is what gives your G4 the power to boot up and function.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Apple mini G4. Trys to power on. The whilte lights blinks every second. Then Shutsdown. Can you help

See if the blinking lights match anything think listed here. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547
Usually there will be some sort of sequence to the lights that will give you some indication as to what the error is.

I have a powermac G4. When I turn it on it chimes but there is no display and a red light on the motherboard. Checked the power supply - all voltages are good. Bad motherboard or video card?

There is one red LED on the Power Mac G4 QuickSilver logic board. It indicates that there is power to the board and does not imply a fault condition.

Do you hear mechanical activity from the drive? It is possible the machine is running fine except for the display or graphics card. Try another display. If you have another Mac, you can also try starting the machine in target disk mode by holding down the T key at boot (your machine was built in 2001, so it should have this feature) and see if you can access the internal drive from another machine. This should eliminate the motherboard as the culprit.

Hi, I need a new power supply for my Mac G4 Model M7892LL

Your machine is a "Gigabit Ethernet" model PowerMac G4.
The power supply for this model is 661-2332 or equivalent. It has a 22-pin connector.

I have a quick silver g4. I connect this to the outlet on the wall and it did not turn on. it has the power light goes on and off and it sound like a disco light. tic tic as it turns on and off

This report matches no common failure mode of the Quicksilver.
With power cord disconnected, test the internal battery voltage. If it is below 3.3V, it needs replacement. After replacing, you MUST reset the PMU by pushing the PMU button (located near the battery) ONCE. Then retry the startup.
If this does not solve your problem, you will need to bring your unit to an Apple-qualified tech for diagnosis.

My Powermac G4 Dual 1.25 machine will not boot any longer. I've removed both hard drives and it still does not turn on. When I push the power button on the front of the machine it lights ups as I push it...

Week or bad power supply, or something shorted
Open the cabinet up and unplug everything off the motherboard except the power button. Leave only one drive connected and disconnect all other drives.
If this works, then plug and power the drives one by one.

I have a quicksilver power mac G4 desktop that has a blinking green light when I turn it on. What should I do?

I assume the light you refer to is the power LED.
No Apple tech repair guide says anything about this LED being able to blink.
It's possible that this is an indication that it is trying to upgrade firmware, especially if it is accompanied by a loud audio tone of about three seconds. I can't say this for sure, because it has never been necessary to activate the firmware upgrade mode on a Quicksilver, since Apple never released any firmware upgrades to it. Firmware upgrade activation is achieved by holding in the power button at startup until the tone is heard. If you are hearing the tone and the power LED is blinking, it may simply indicate that your power button is sticking in.

Install an Airport card in a G4 Tower

There are six models of Power Mac G4 computers: AGP Graphics, PCI Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio, QuickSilver, and QuickSilver 2002. You cannot install an AirPort card in the Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics); the rest accept original version 1 Apple Airport cards. The card is simply inserted through an opening in the PCI card guide and seats itself into a socket on the logic board. Then you attach the loose antenna cable to the hole on the end of the Airport Card. You're done.

The screen on my Apple Powerbook G4 goes dim and sometimes out.

How long before it goes dim?

Does it start strong, then dims right away?
