Samsung LN-S4041DX 40 in LCD TV

Our above model lcd is about 2 years old. About 2 weeks ago, the screen started to go black but we could still hear the sound as good as normal. We would turn it off and about 6 hours later we would turn it back on and it works for about 10-15 min on average and then like clockwork goes black again. We have to wait about 6-7 hours before we can get these 10-15 minute blocks of picture, otherwise it is only sound no picture. I have read about the backlight inverter going out but in most of the posts, I read the screen would blink at you and then go out. If it was the backlight would we be able to watch it like normal for 10-15 min every 6-7 hours? We really do not want to have to get a new TV, I just want to know whats wrong with it....Any help would be greatly appreciated....No video, just audio. Have tried different inputs. Tried reset per manual and leaving tv unplugged fo 24hr. Video came back for an instant. I can shine a bright light against display and see a shadow of the video. Is it possibly backlight or inverter. Need help, don't have tech manual and Samsung no help. Expensive piece of furniture. Only 18 months old.

Hi there
Try another channel.
Press the SOURCE button.
Check the antenna connections.
If none of these fixes work then it could be the inverter coil which is faulty and could have a dry solder joint, the TV will work intermittently if the inverter coil is the source of the problem and will require a TV engineer to sort the problem out

Good luck

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, it would be very very rare for all the backlight (CCF lamps) of a 40inch LCD to go out at the same time. Since you have performed the flashlight test, it would be the inverter board (most likely). It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be considering performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), you could either go about changing boards or component level repair.

Alternately, you might be lucky, it may turn out to be a case of loose connection, cold solder or heat related. But then again, this would require opening the unit for a look and see.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

As per your indications the problem is due to bad inverter . You need to replace inverter . The inverter is very expensive . It cant be backlight problem.

To determine you need to check voltages. It can really be anything depending on voltage. Backlights take high voltage so be careful. The inverter runs on 24 volts, you can check it on the plug going to inverter. On some models the inverter is on the power board. On this model, look at the 1000uf caps on the power board. If they have blown their tops, they're bad causing the issue (ive seen it) .. otherwise, you've gotta check that 24v and then also the lamp enable data line..(lamp_en) it will be 3.3 or 5v meaning on. This comes from the main board and tells the backlight when to kick on. Check these to find your problem. I can help where needed.

Samsung 40" flat screen looses sound

this problem started on my LN-S4051D a couple of years ago. eventually the sound stopped working altogether. I then started using my surround sound speakers for the TV via optical out but soon that stopped working as well. I recently took the TV to a repair shop who said that the main board is bad and needs to be replaced. Labor plus parts was going to cost me $400. I said no thanks and paid for the estimate. Good luck.

Samsung 40inch LCD tv doesn't turn on for some time, clicks, clicks, clicks, with standby light coming off and on for some time (~2min) before it finally decides to work.

To all who are having power supply issues: Samsung is now acknowledging a problem with the faulty capacitors. I called 1 800 726-7864 and they said they would repair certain out-of-warranty TVs if the problem is related to the capacitors. I just called and they are sending a service rep out to diagnose the problem

TV clicks constantly, as if trying to turn on/off.

Probably a bad main board or T-CON board or both. If you're trying to fix yourself, try disconnecting the cable (LDVS) from the small board (T-CON) at top center of the LCD panel and see if it still cycles. Note, be very careful with that cable, it is very delicate. If it still is cycling off and on, then it is probably the main board. A slight chance it may be the power board also.

Samsung LN-S4041DX 40 in LCD TV

Hi. You can try to go into service mode and reset the LCDTV to Factory Default. This will clear out all buffer over run's and any software related issues. It may fix the problem or it may not. If this doesnt fix the problem than you need to have a qualified Technician to look at it. The problem is in the AV circuit board, a technician who is qualified to repair electronics at circuit board level should be able to repair this problem rather quickly and inexpensively. Most technicians who do not have the expertise in repairing cicuit boards to component level would rather replace the whole AV board than repair it and this will be rather expensive. So talk to the repair shop before you drop the TV off.

Be very careful when accessing service mode. I suggest to write down all information in all areas before proceeding to a factory reset. If you do not record all values correclty you run the chance of not being able to use the TV again. To go into Factory Service mode, use the original remote and in this sequence push POWER OFF-MUTE-1-8-2-Power ON, the set will turn on and enter service mode, if you hit all previous keys correctly. If it doesnt try again. When you are done hit POWER OFF and this will exit service mode and save the data.

I had a problem with a Samsung 46 inch LCD and it had audio and dim light but no picture and found out that the logic board toward the top (inside tv) was bad and was no longer available and the only way to fix it was to get the entire display panel (the logic board came with it) It was not costwise to repair. Hope this helps.
