DESIGNJET 450C SMEARS (BLEEDS) INK

I use my Designjet 450c to make black line survey maps. the ink "bleeds" or "runs" on the best and normal print quality settings, while not doing it on the fast setting but the fast setting is to light for my needs. I have changed media from 20lb bond to 24lb bond and have also changed ink cartriges to no avail.

Most likely the media (paper) is touching the print heads. This can occur because 1) the media holding mechanism is not holding the media correctly, and the media buckles, or 2) the carriage to media distance is too small. (Check the adjustment in chapter 5 of the manual).
I found a copy of the procesure online:

SOURCE: DRIVER PROBLEM FOR HP DESIGNJET 450C

First try the driver for XP

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=12686&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25253&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228

If that does not work try the driver for the designjet 500 or 430 sometimes a like model driver will work.

SOURCE: HP DesignJet 450c printer issues.

Kavalbe,

You can find drivers for your DesighJet printer here:

Then, a JetDirect 170X or 300X will fit the bill for connecting the printer to the network.

Also, you preferably should use an HP Standard TCP/IP port for connecting the driver to the network, since the MS version in some cass have issues (prints can be reprinted when crossing over to a new date, prints can disappear...)

A stable version of HP's Standard Port Monitor can be found here: (Note, this is a direct ftp link to HP's ftp server, so you should get a file for downloading when you click the link.)

Else, you can use either the software that comes with the JetDirect box or download its software from hp.com. But the HP Standard Port Monitor software is easier to use if you already have the printer driver.

I have hp designjet 450c..the problem in printing.while printing it prints copy of the image also and not clear.i dnt know whts the problem..please help me..

That usually is caused by clogged or damaged printheads. There are 4 printheads, Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. When you replace the printheads you need to calibrate the machine so the colors line up with one another.

My father passed away recently. He did blue printing on his designjet 450c. He did not use the colors much at all. I am getting ready to sell it and when the colors were tested, it shows the cartridges...

as it seems like it may have layed around for awhile or if a ink cartridge on certain machines dont get used much they tend to dry up the head in the jet may need cleaning but i would see if you can run it through a cleaning sesion and take out the ink cartridge and try wipe area on inkjet head and check the cartridge and see if there is any ink coming out of it at all or try replacing the ink cartridge as it may have dried up cheers

I am unable to get my HP DesignJet 450C to communicate with Windows Vista 64. Is there a driver or work around.

Sorry, drivers are not available for Vista, yip, I know. You can select the 430 but then only have black printing.
HP need their rear ends kicked on this one, they are forcing us to purchase new equipment.

Black smudges on printed page

Are you sure this is a Designjet 450 (large format printer) and not a Deskjet 450 (portable printer)? The following assumes you have wispy black streaking on the printed side of the paper. If the streaking is on the back side then post more details of the printer model and the issue.

In either case the most likely cause is a buildup of fibers on the underside of the printheads or carriage, causing wisps of black ink to be dragged on the paper when the carriage reverses direction. You can clean the printer as shown at the following (though the details will be somewhat different for the Designjet or Deskjet....).

Designjet 450C

In my 8 years of servicing plotters I haven't seen published specs as far as the paper thickness goes. But from experience and seeing my customers produce problems free plots, you don't want to plot on anything past 30 lb media. 99% of plots are done in the 18-24lbs range. Media Types: Paper (plain, vellum, coated, glossy) Film (vellum, coated, glossy, clear, matte), Translucent Bond for Black output only
Hope this helps

Hp designjet 450c error lights

Take all cartridges out while the plotter is on,then re-insert them one by one and watch the ready light flash after each insertion. If it doesn't flash that could mean 2 things, either the cartridge is bad or the contacts on the carriage are dirty or the entire carriage needs replacing.
I tell all of my dj-4XX customers to check the spittoon assembly(on the inside, right side)for ink buildup. If it looks clogged, you can temporarily scoop the ink that solidified out,but eventually it(spittoon)will need replacing.
Hope this helps
