The manual shows the pre-motor washable filter. The post-motor, Hepa filter is shown in the manual, but does not show how to get it out of its housing (right under the canister)

Where are both filters?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC23 has two filters - a washable pre-filter, and a HEPA post-filter which needs no maintenance. Both are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum without replacement in normal use.

The correct way to wash the pre-filter is shown in the video below - we recommend using cold water without detergent, and allowing at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it. In normal use this should be done at least once every 3 months.

As the post-filter needs no maintenance, it's sealed within the machine and cannot be accessed by the user.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you'd like any further advice. If you have any concerns about your DC23's performance, our online Support guide should help: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc23/dc23-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/check-telescopic-wand-step-1-turbine-head

Why won't My Hoover savvy won't turn on

Hi Denell! Your vacuum has a thermal protector that will shut it off automatically if it becomes overheated. This is usually caused by a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Follow these quick steps to check your vacuum for clogs.

1. Remove the dirt cup and the dirt cup lid.
2. Grasp pre-filter frame and pull up and out of dirt cup.
3. Separate the pre-filter and Hepa cartridge filter. The pre-filter can be cleaned with a brush and then rinsed with water. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
4. Clean the Hepa cartridge filter by tapping either of the ends until dirt stops falling from the filter. The Hepa filter should be replaced once a year.
5. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear any clogs from hose.
6. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen and remove any clogs from the lower hose

The vacuum will turn back on after it cools off. This can take up to an hour. If the vacuum has been off for over 24 hours we recommend taking your vacuum in to a service center for repair. Follow the link to locate the nearest authorized service center to you.

How do you clean the HEPA filter on the Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC14 has two filters, a pre-motor filter and a post-motor filter. Both are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, but only the pre-motor filter requires maintenance.

We recommend washing the pre-motor filter at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below. Always ensure it's completely dry before replacing it - this could take at least 12 hours.

The HEPA post-motor filter does not require any maintenance. We advise against attempting to wash or clean it in any way as this could cause damage. It's normal for the filter to discolour over time, as it's engineered to capture the carbon dust from the motor brushes. This will not affect performance.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further information you're welcome to contact our experts directly at 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Each time I vacuum, animal hair and dirt collect on the Hepa filter of my Dyson Animal. It is about 5 years old. I have already replaced the Hepa filter about a month ago.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If dirt and pet hair are collecting on your HEPA filter, the pre-motor filter may be incorrectly fitted, or missing from your cleaner. To check the filter is correctly fitted, please see our online support video for this cleaner:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1461&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

If the cleaner has been used with the pre-motor filter missing, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly, as the cleaner may have been damaged. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

How many filters does a dyson dc07 have

Hi there, the DC07 has 2 filters. A pre motor washable filter and a post motor filter which will be either a simple pad (like thick cloth) or a Hepa filter (about and inch thick with a plastic housing). The post motor filter should not be washed but the pre motor filter can. As a technician I would recommend replacing every couple of years for best running of your vacuum. The post motor filter is under the clear bin, you can lever the cover off with a small flat blade screwdriver. The washable filter is to the right of the post motor filter inside a removable housing.

Can not get filters

Hi,
While you are looking for a new filter, you could do this(as written in the instruction manual):
1. Hold the HEPA filter
by the edges and vigorously
"TapClean" the HEPA Filter
dirty side down on a hard,
flat surface until no more
dust is observed falling out
from between the pleats of
the filter.
2.
We recommend washing the HEPA filter
once a month or when suction
appears to be reduced. Let the HEPA
filter air dry completely for 24 hours.
3. Rinse the non-woven pre-filter and let
it air dry completely for 24 hours.
4. Insert the non-woven pre-filter.
5. Reinstall the HEPA filter in the
vacuum.
Have a good day.

Does my Dyson Animal vacuum have a hepa filter?

The HEPA filter is not a cleanable item. The pre-motor filter is the washable one.

Changing the HEPA filter on a DC17 Animal

Just took my Dyson in and yes my HEPA needed changing. It's under the right wheel (as you're looking at the machine); you can see it through the "vents" above the wheel. The screw is on the bottom of machine.

You will probably need a Torx (star) 15 screwdriver -- that's what Dyson seems to use everywhere.
