    Hi there
If the machine has an Intel CPU and your trying to install XP, XP setup disk doesn't recognize sata hard drives.
Is it XP you are trying to install? because there is a way round it

What you have to do is make a floppy disk with sata drivers on it and get a usb floppy drive, because its intel you need the matrix storage manager. get it from here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

Download the matrix storage manager and the read me file on instruction on how to install xp with extra drivers.

Any problems post back

Good luck

CANT CLEAN UNWANTED COOKIES AS I WANT TO CLEAR UNWANTED FILES

Hi malachyfinne...
To clean your files and to clean any cookies, virus's,trojans, worms, etc you may have on your computer do the following.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Go to the following website and download, install and run the FREE Microsoft Safety Scanner.
It will remove the virus, trojan, worm, etc from your computer.
It may take quite a while to finish, it all depends on the size of your hard drive.
Once the Microsoft Safety Scanner is completed running, it should have removed the virus, trojan, worm, etc. from you computer, but if it didn't remove the virus, trojan, worm, etc from your computer then it will give you an option to connect (real time) with a Microsoft professional (FREE) and he will take over control of your computer (with you permission) and finish the removal process.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Restarting problems

Restarting problem could be due to Over-Heating of the CPU or Virus, worm, malware infection.

For overheating problem, you need to open the notebook and blow it with an air blower mainly near the CPU area.

For virus or worm problem, you can scan the system with a good anitvirus like Kaspersky Internet security 2010 or Mcafee Internet security with their latest updates installed.

Hope it will solve your Problem.

Please help my computer keep having a pop about a virus and worm but I already have Iolo protection but now it just locks everything up it keeps saying activate this new protection

Be real careful, because there are websites that will launch this dialog box and no matter which answer you choose.... YOU LOSE! because it'll install a virus..
Your best bet is a program such as NORTON Utilities or a reputable app.
Keep it running in the background and even if you run into one of these foney dialog boxes again, simply force quit your program without closing the dialog box... be careful..

My compaq presario 4000 shuts itself off every so often. it sounds like the fans are cutting in then it shuts down

There are known viruses that will also shutdown a computer. You can rule-out a virus problem first perhaps with Mcafee's free online virus scan here: http://us.mcafee.com/root/campaign.asp?cid=45694
About the fans, you should definitely check them. If the main CPU's fan is clodded or otherwise failing, then temperature is likely skyrocketting until it shuts down. You could download a CPU temperature program as well. If you have the knowledge and this is a desktop, try opening the lid and taking a look at the fans

Ive gotta big virus in my pc and need to wipe my compaq evo 500 desktop. Setup cannot find installed hard drive. How do I make it find my installed hard drive?

(This is a fix for when you hit ENTER to install windows, and then the message pops out and says that windows does not recognize any drives press f3 to exit or something...if not try it anyways)

1) Download nlite.
2)Got to your manufacturers website>support> sata controller drivers...download them.
3)and go to this website....

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/res...p-installation/

lol i found i and i thought the screenshots would be a better guide...create the new windows cd like it says there...and you will be ready to go...drop me a message if you get stuck anywhere and ill be happy to help...

btw, you dont need to do anything on the set up(like hit f 6 to install extra drivers), that is only when you do it with a floppy.

good luck and let me know if this helps

Worm virus

Go to trendmicro.com and run " housecall ". It's an online virus scanner...works very well. Otherwise, delete partition\format\install xp all over again.

CPU usage is 100% !!

Hey there yasser_81,

So it was just a random spike in CPU usage? Do you remmber what you were doing at the time this occured? Were you playing any PC games, or were you just simply checking email. To be honest, this doesn't too much like a typical virus. It doesn't rule out the fact that it is.

Simple check though, if you are concerned of it being one, is use a quick check with TrendMicro.

go to, http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

What this is, is a simple, applet based virus scanner that will check your PC of any infected files, and also attempt to remove them.

If it does in fact find some malware/greyware/worm virus, then you may safetly assume that, that's what caused the issue.

If it did not, it may otherwise have been just your computer not dealing well with opening/closing of applications so quickly.

If these steps do not help, respond back please with what you were doing at the time, and also how much memory does your laptop have.

Automaticly restarting, shooting down

first try a reset in your router settings, by typing 192.168.0.1 in your web browser, and you also may have to try a firmware update, but you need to find the version of your router underneath, so refer to this page and see if you have the current firmware:- http://support.dlink.com/products/revision.asp Please be aware that any firmware upgrades need to be done with the rj45 cable and not wirelessly Otherwise, if it's rebooting it could be the W32.Blaster Worm, many other variations of this worm have been found. Some of them are W32/Lovsan.worm and W32/Nachi.worm. These worms create a lot of ICMP traffic which may overload the router to eventually prevent it from communicating. Whether it´s the CPU or another component of the router that causes the failure, the problem can only be solved through the removal of this virus. There´s a tool provided by McAfee called Stinger. This tool will detect and remove the viruses that cause these problems. Please take a minute to read about this tools and it´s usage. You will need to run this tool on every single computer. the tool can be found here:- http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
