Question about Samsung PCK520R TV

1 Answer

PCK520R 9 year old projection, was fine until last week, now can not keep aligned. I have completed the manual convergence, (20 times) which lasts 5-10 minutes then it goes right out of alignment again. I dont want to go crazy repairing this, any guesses on possible problems and ballpark figure on estimate repair costs? Is this the start of many more problems to come?

This sounds like some of the capacitors have burnt out! (does it stay in line then warm up and go out of line? or is it the other way around?) After 9 years there may be many more problems to come with this model TV Projection TVs have a much shorter life span then say a tube tv! (This could cost upwords of $700.00 to fix!)

My picture tube tv is eight years old & now I get a good pcture fore only 20 minutes 'till it goes black

I would suspect one of two general things---one if the picture dims out and does not just cut out bad solder connections for the filament in the neck of the tube---a look there with set on will when bad reveal if this is the case.

Bad solder connections somewhere on the main board--this happens with age as the board expands and contracts from heat and then cooling down.

If not a do it yourself person it may not be worth a shop repair on a 8 year old set------

Let me know if need advice.

I have a 12 yr old Mitsubishi projection tv model vs 60607 with a red/blue convergence problem. Can it be fixed?

It should be fixable----this model uses two of the STK-392-110 chips for convergence.

If it adjusts but will not remember the adjustments either a bad solder connection on one of the chips or a problem with the DCM---digital convergence module which stores adjustments.

Adjustments in customer menu may not be being stored--

I have a Sony KP-53HS10 TV for over 9 years. It still works great, good picture. But few weeks ago, it started making a "ssssssi" noise after turning on 4~5 minutes. The noise might come from a cooling fan...

There are no fan in this tv.This tv most common problems are the dead convergence board parts have problems, picture have colors lines R,B,G out of alignment, have colors shadows, and 3D pictures. The convergence board must have it 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors to be replaced to solved convergence problems. The problems u discribing,it a starting point, just the convergence problems, have not take it effect yet.Sooner or later ur tv will have the convergence problems.

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

I own a Sony 57" HD CRT Projection Television (Model KDP-57WS655). The unit is about 4 years old. Within the last couple weeks, it has not consistently turned on. I've checked the Sony site, and they...

sounds like it is overheating and shutting down to prevent further damage. i would recommend checking for a local repair shop to see if they can get a look at it. it could be as simple as a blocked airvent and the unit is overheating or there may be a more serious problem.

My sony wega keeps cutting off then coming back .

a couple of years old can be a long time:

has the TV been on 24\7

It's the amount of hours that matters..

electrolytic capacitors typically last 3000 to 5000 hours....

Special "long life" caps last close to 7000
but the caps in most consumer electronics, even broadcast equipment 3-5K hours.

Intermittent convergence issue became permanent

Hi Ed,

Your convergence amplifiers are definitely bad. The user manual will not work, since it is the same manual that comes with the set when it was new. The service manual can be found at:
