WD440 Hotpoint Aquarius Rattle

Hi, Tonight when on fast spin my washer made a horrendous rattling noise, like a penny was caught between the inner drum and outer casing, it wasnt regular and didnt do it all the time. After switching off i opened and emptied the load, when turning the drum fast by hand the noise wasnt there. What could it be? and how do i fix it? Matt

Ive now looked through the drum with a torch and i can see a penny underneath the element in the drain!! How can i get it out to prevent further damage? Please help

  • Matt Wain May 31, 2007

    Ok guys!!
This was alot easier to fix than i first thought. After having several panic attacks i decided to take a look myself, I took the rear compartment off (where the drain pipe comes through) and took a look behind. To my surprise there was a large black pipe going into the bottom of the drum, i released this by undoing the jubilee clip and lo and behold the filter and the coin came down with it!! Refixing is a reversal of removal and whilst down its worth cleaning out the filter just make sure you refit it into the locaters on the pipe.
    Yipee.

Hi man - heres the fix if ever your WD440 stops and wont spin - and the off/on light flashes along with a couple of other lights like crease free etc etc.

Basically take off the bottom part of the back of the machine, its plastic - about a one foot by half a foot rectangle.

Oh yeah - plug it out :)

Look in the machine - you'll see a large jubelee clip or hose clip, google these for pictures if your unsure what they look like.

It will be connected to a wide - teenager size fist - black hose.

unscrewing the jubelee clip will losen this off.

pull the black rubber hose down to disconnect from the drum.

Get the mop - there will be a flood.

look inside the black hose, there will be a beutiful bounty in it - in my case I got 1 Euro 28 cents in a vast array of coins, a piece of sticky tape and a hair clip, which is ironic as I am bald.

fix the black thing back to the drum, retighten the jubelee clip, fix the plasic shell back onto the back of the machine... plug machine back in... push machine back into position.... taking care not to slip on wet floor.

approx fix time... 2 hrs to google for this solution, and then 5 mins fixing machine - 40 mins mopping floor.

A VERY EASY FIX.

all the best

Hi all.

I had a similar problem on a Washer/dryer by Hotpoint, though the fault is inevitable on any washing machine. My 420 had a horrendous rattle so I followed Matt's instructions and removed the rear panel and the jubilee clip on the black waste pipe which went into a pump. Problem was a hairclip which was rattling against the pumps blades. Jubliee clip was a pain to get off as it's a one-use plastic one so I had to remove it without breaking it but managed with a bit of persuasion from my pliers and a blade screwdriver! All back together again with half an hour and so far so good!

Also matt check that the coin has not "reversed" any of the drum "dimple holes" otherwise you may shred some clothes. the easiest way is to run you hand along the inside slowly, any scratching of the hand is a problem- which you may be able to push back though. tone.

I can recall just removing the bottom panel and cleaning the filter - are these new machines meant to have the filter cleaned these days as the process is so complicated?

Hot point WF451 Issue. I want change the door rubber between the door and drum. How do I do this? Also the machine is making a noise on fast spin as if there is something in the drum catching. I have...

Hi for changing the door seal check out the video section on www.selfix-uk.co.uk there are a few videos on the wf including bearing change which also covers the door seal as well. As far as the noise in your machine it could be almost any thing...if it's a scrapping noise it may be a bra wire caught between the drum and container, if its a tapping noise it may just be loose wires hitting on the cabinet or you may have a coin between the drum and container if it's a loud rattle, you could also have something in the pump housing...it's hard to diagnose noises without actually hearing them sorry

When in fast spin there is a loud rattling sound as though there are stones in the drum

You could have something fast between the inner and outer drum, or one or more of the drum paddles is loose..
Remove lower rear panel of washer, remove the belt, and from the front spin the drum by hand, this this will show if the drum bearings are o/k.
There should be little or no noise from the drum.
If it is rumbling, or feels rough, then the main bearings have failed.
If ther is something caught, then you will hear it catching or clicking.
Hope this helps.

The next step should be the pump out. If it is not pumping check your pump filter for obstructions. Check the drain hose and also your drain in the wall. If all are clear you may have a bad pump. You should have an error code coming up when the machine stops also, please let me know what it is. Thanks and I hope I can FixYa.
