Hoover Self Propelled Upright

Self Propelled reverse works smoothly but forward requires a bit of a "push" to keep it moving or it will go verrry slowly. What's the fix, please!! Carpet is short nap and beater bar seems to be operating smoothly.

SOURCE: e drive problem. Self propelled feature drives in reverse, but not in forward.

I took the wires loose from the drive circuit card. Using the ohm meter to check for a broken wire, all three checked out fine. I then rigged up a set of jumpers that allowed me to jump across the terminals on the circuit board from the common to the two neutrals. Sure enough the drive motor works perfectly both forward & reverse. The magnetically sensetive transister type switch was the culprit. I have replaced the switch & it works great. I wish I could identify the transistor & only buy it & solder it in.

SOURCE: Dirt Devil Featherlite - how to remove the beater bar to clean

If you lay it down and look under the base- by the brush roll- there are three screws you have to remove w/ a philips head screwdriver to get the base plate off. From there you can take out the brush roll, etc.

no, brush roller shouldn't be touching anything, its under warrenty so take it to a hoover repair shop with your proof of purchase and they will fix it at no cost to you.something like that they might be able to fix it while your there because it won't take long. please leave feedback

U6485-900 WindTunnel Self-Propelled I changed the belts but there is not enough tension on the brush drive belt to get it to rotate

I had the exact same problem with my Hoover U6485-900 Anniversary upright, self propelled, vacuum. It would move backwards and forwards, had good vacuum, but wouldn't pick up much because the brush/roller was not turning very well. I replaced the main drive belt (38528035) and it now works great. The old belt had stretched and was slipping under load. Thanks for the great suggestions.

Why wont the self propelled brush on the hoover wind tunnel work. large belt is ok. the small belt looks 0k.

no don't do that, have a little patience.check where the self propelled assembly is and see if anything got in there, something might be loose and the teeth are meeting each other.thats a good vavuum.i have 2 but their not self propelled.try taking the belt off the self propelled machanisn and try it again.if it works then something is keeping the propelled machanism from working.dig a little deeper, what do you have to lose?

Can't get bottom plate off hoover model

Am a bit confused because I can't find the model number you give on the Hoover website, so am not sure exactly which machine we're dealing with. However, the procedure for removing the bottom plate is common to most self-propelled upright wind-tunnel models, and it's simply a matter of laying the machine flat, turning it over and removing the four recessed screws that hold it in place. It can then just be lifted off. If this doesn't work for you, perhaps you could confirm the model number and I'll try again. It will also help if you say what country you're in. Good luck!

How do you replace the forward / reverse cable? How do you replace the forward / reverse cable?

I don't know how the end fits back on the replacement cable.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Vacuum. There is a hook on the bottom of the vacuum and @ the top by the handle as well. You may what to get a schematic or owner’s manual to see how they hook up because of the newer and different Model #’s for Hoover. The Hoover Self-Propelled works on when the handle is lower to a comfortable position then the self-propelled drive may just need and adjustment. There is a self-propelled rod that controls the self-propelled feature and it either needs adjustment or replacement or the part that hold it may be broken but either one can be fixed. E drive problem. Self propelled feature drives in reverse, but not in forward.

This is basically the same problem with a Hoover power drive only the forward still drives albeit slowly and a slight "push" to keep it going. There has to be a common core type of drive failure !!
