Ice on bck wall of freezer on my maytag Side by side

I have defrosted the freezer manually overnight and it seems to be working fine, but as time goes on the ice will return at the back of the freezer and on the coils. How do I go about fixing this problem so the freezer defrosts automatically as it once did? Which parts do I need to look at or replace? Thanks

How do i replace the heater on a maytag RSW22E0D side by side?

Place all frozen items that are inside the freezer now into a ice chest. Unplug the power cord from wall receptacle that goes to the refrigerator. Place a few towels inside the bottom section of freezer to absorb any water that overflows the freezer floor during manual defrost. Place a bucket of very hot water inside the freezer and close the doors. Give the freezer time to warm up and melt the ice behind the rear wall of the freezer. I bought a maytag side by side in 2002; model # MSD2454GRQ, SN 18157432AL, REV # 18. Ice is forming at the bottom of the maytag freezer department. Overnight ice will form at about 1/8 inch and left has...

Defrost problem: 3 components. Defrost Heater. Timer (circuit board or motorized) & Thermostat.
Remove cover on the inside back wall (usually 6 screws). Note frost pattern. (bottom of evaporator coil)
Put refrigerator into defrost cycle and note the defrost heater come on, or not. (careful heater can glow red hot)... Unplug Frige and test defrost components. Replace bad component... Refrigerator should defrost every 8 hours. when the cycle slows or quits the freezer will freeze over the evaporator coil and no air flow = no cold air...

Refrigerator not cold, freezer barely cold and has ice on back wall

You have a defrost problem if the ice is on the back lower wall of the freezer section.... This is where the evaporator is located just under a fan.(aluminum coils looks like a radiator) There are three parts to the automatic defrost system- the heating element(found at the bottom of the evaporator) a bi-metal thermostat(found at the top of the evaporator) and a defrost control board(usually in the top of the refrigerator section, but this varies)

If you take off the back freezer panel and melt the ice build- up with a hair dryer or letting it open overnight, without poking any holes in evaporator and losing freon(out a fridge) your fridge will run fine for about 3 weeks. This is humidity from air collecting, automatic defrost system usually works about every 8 hours when working normally. Your sealed system and compressor are fine, you have a defrost problem. Good luck.

My kenmore 53654 is not cooling on the refrigerator side, the freezer side seems to be fine

return air ducts are iced up, unplug unit overnight, or use a blowdryer to defrost the freezer area, rear wall . just set the dryer in there for a couple of hours and you should be good

MAYTAG PLUS, MOD MZD2766GE STOPPED COOLING ON THE RIGHT SIDE,

After they replaced the part did they defrost the unit. there is probably ice build up on the coil behind the service panel in the freezer compartment. If the defrost control was the part replaced you can probably push the refrigerator side light switch in and out 5-6 times and force a defrost. if the unit goes into defrost then all the components are fine and you just need to manually defrost the coil either by off loading all food and leaving the unit off for 4-6 hours with doors open. of offloading freezer side remove rear access cover in freezer exosing evaporator coils and use a hairdryer to defrost the ice accumulation. good luck Peyton

Maytag wide by side

Sounds like a defrost problem or dirty coils under the machine. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
