2 Red lights displayed on the front of an Xbox 360 indicates it is overheating here are some solutions provided by Microsoft

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907533?sd=xbox

If it continues - Under the circumstance that you have not voided your warranty or allowed it to expire you can send your 360 away to get a replacement.

Hope this helped ;)

I have an xbox 360 that pops up with the 3 red lights on the front and every now and then the e71 error. How do I fix this problem myself?

Nobody is 100% sure what causes this error but it Most likely relates to dashboard and console updates. Also, the problem appears to arise from gamers incorrectly flashing their hardware or doing botched firmware hacks which then prevent the system from functioning correctly.
Have you recently updated your Xbox 360 in anyway, or have you (or anyone else) attempted some form of firmware hack or flash? If so, this is probably the cause of the e71 code on your Xbox, however, it could also be completely random. If you call microsoft they will most likely tell you to9 just reset but that is only a temporary fix and you still have the problem of annoying freezes which will get worse and worse. Fixing the Xbox e71 is quite tricky. First try these methods,

1) switch off the console. With the console switched off, press and hold the sync button (the small white button that is used to search for wireless connections). While holding the sync button, switch on the console by pressing the power button and do not release hold of the sync button until the console is fully booted up. During the booting up of the console, any failed updates will be cleared allowing the console to run normally once again and thus eliminating the xbox 360 e71 error.

Another similar way is to
2)Hold the wireless connection button on your controller down with the 360 off. It's the little white button between the shoulder buttons. It's what you used to set up your wireless controller with your 360. While still holding the button, hit the XBOX logo on the controller to turn on the XBOX. Do not let go of the white button. After it's fully started up, you can let go. this reverts you back to your last update.

Or if nothing else seems to work you could try completely resetting your Xbox 360. To do this,

3) First enter the dashboard, go to the right-most column, go and press "Initial Set Up" then follow the instructions on screen. If you cannot access this screen due to the e71 error on your Xbox 360, you can try holding the "Y" button on your controller as you switch the console on. This will enter the same process, and restore default factory settings. However, there is still a chance that this might not work.

There are guides available online for less than $30 if you cant seem to get it fixed but make sure you get one that explains all errors as most only tell about the red ring of death.
Hope this helps

What do you do when you turn on your xbox and a red ring comes up instead of a green one

Are you sure you are talking about the Original Xbox? Please make sure your posts are in the correct cateigory for easy finding and therefore better solutions by xbox 360 experts ;)

If you mean Xbox 360 instead of original xbox then refer to below.

DO NOT OPEN YOUR XBOX 360 CONSOLE!
Microsoft will fix it for free with free shipping. Takes about 2 weeks.
There is videos and different ways to fix it online but it will happen again with those half baked solutions. With those solutions the xbox will work sometimes 1 week and sometimes 6 months but the console will break again. Also for an incentive for you, Microsoft adds another year to your consoles warranty and a card to a free month of xbox live.

Ring offire on my xbox360

Have you done an internet search for this: How to repair the dreaded ring of fire on my XBox?
If so, you are not alone!
The problem has become prevalent enough that you will find different methods of fixing it online. You might be familiar with the towel method. I see that one a lot when I was searching for this.
You might think that the towel method is worth a try. After all, it is free, right?
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I highly recommend against using that method.
Why do I NOT recommend the towel method?
Well, when you searched for "How to repair the dreaded ring of fire on my XBox," you most likely were searching for a safe method of repairing your XBox, a safe, quick, and permanent method.
If that is what you were looking for, then toweling your XBox fits one out of three. It is a quick method. And that is about the only positive of that method.
It is NOT safe, nor is it permanent.
You run the risk of frying your XBox, which I don't think is what you want to accomplish. It also is not permanent, with the longest lasting fix reported at 2 days. I'm sure you want a fix that you do once and that will let you get back to enjoying your XBox 360 again without the constant worry of when your XBox will flash red again.
The one safe, quick, and permanent method that I recommend is getting a reputable guide that deals with what you searched for, namely, how to repair the dreaded ring of fire on my XBox.
When you go searching for a reputable XBox 360 repair guide, a good way to gauge if the guide will work for you is to see if they have a sample video for you to watch. When it comes to fixing electronic equipment like your XBox 360, it is always good to be able to see what you need to do.
To help you out, I have researched many of the guides out there.
There was one repair guide that just stood out to me. I liked the layout of their site, it was easy to follow, and their videos were just awesome. They had HD quality videos, making it super easy to follow along.
Find out which guide was #1 by visiting my page on the Red Rings Fix.

Help with xbox 360

try pressing and holding the bluetooth button on your 360 while doing this turn your xbox on and keep holding until it boots completely even if it does not make it to the boot screen just keep holding it until you think the time would have passed for it to boot up. power off your xbox. wait about 5 minutes and then reboot believe me this little method fixes alot of the xbox problems so it makes me wonder if some of the error codes are really correct. one more thing i strongly recommend the use of a cooling device for the 360 which ever one you choose
