HDTV as monitor via VGA

My boss found a HP DV500 laptop with no hard drive and no RAM and a broken screen.  I put 1 gig ram in it and am using live CD's until i get a hard drive for it.  MY HDTV says vga mode not supported when i hook it up.  It works on an old CRT I have just fine and i've lowered resolutions but it still wont come up on the TV.  Even when i first boot i get nothing.  I get that mode not supported message.  What am I doing wrong? On the other hand I have a Toshiba a105 laptop that works just fine on the TV.
Thanks for the help!

Have a toshiba a10 and a vizio hdtv, what cable do I need to connect the two

Hi.

You don't say what you intend to do once the 2 devices are connected. I am going to assume that you just want to use the vizio hdtv as a large external monitor.

The laptop's vga (15-pin blue or black D-shaped) port can connect direct to the hdtv via it's blue vga (15-pin blue D-shaped) port.

However, your toshiba a10 laptop is relatively old, discoontinued technology with (in original specification) low RAM (256mb ddr), a single, slow processor (2.2ghz celeron) and slow (4300rpm), small hard drive (30gb), with limited, low level vga graphics capability, running xp home edition operating system. VGA is a slow analogue video technology.

To get the full benefit of the hdtv, which is almost state-of-the-art, you need a laptop with a fast dual or quad core processor, 3-4gb ddr3 RAM, 320-500gb 5400-7200rpm or solid state HDD, running the latest windows 7 operating system. Such a laptop would have hdmi ports and powerful, fast, state-of-the-art graphics capability.

A new laptop would unlock the full spectrum of , high definition video, high speed audio-visual streaming, fast video-editing, multimedia functionality between the two devices.

For your current laptop you need a male-to-male 15-pin, D-Sub VGA cable.

For the recommended or a similar, modern laptop you would need an HDMI cable.

Hope this helps.

Hp dv 2500 blank screen ..system will not start

There are many promblems that can associate to a blank screen, 1) test you laptop using the external source such as HDMI, VGA, SVIDEO port to a monitor or Tv to see if you get a display. ( make sure your tv is tunned to the correct signal) If you get something to you tv, monitor via the enteral ports, then your screen inverter is bad, or loose connection in the wiring system between your screen and your laptop base. If that doesn't work then 2) Its a ram memory error issue, take out your back service panel and remove the rams, and rotate rams if two of the memory bank are used. Rotate vise versa with each ram to see if it works. If it works, one of your memory module is bad. If not 3) you motherboard or cpu is bad, Most likely the motherboard, Hp computer of your model does tend to overheat, and destroy the vga chipset or fry the compacitors, if this is the case, your laptop is pretty much history, unless you replace the motherboard itself.

What is the largest drive I should put in my Compaq Presario 2200 PC Notebook?

Usually the drive which can be put in your machine depends on what you want to use the machine for. But usually to attain optimum performance it is advisable to put in a hard disk in accordance to the RAM on your system. The ration of RAM to hard drive should be about 1 Gig Ram to 100Gig Hard drive. This should help you decide what size of drive to put.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

HP zv5430us laptop has no video. Blank

The laptop has a built-in video card and the video RAM uses part of the main RAM.
First, re-seat the RAM modules and if the laptop still does not boot up normally then remove the RAM and get it tested at your friendly computer repair shop.
If the RAM is OK then connect an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first and then the laptop. The video data should divert to the external monitor automatically, if you do not get any video image on the monitor then the video card in the laptop is faulty and a motherboard replacement is required.
A replacement motherboard may not be a cost effective solution and If it was me, I would put my money on a new laptop. I would then remove the hard disk and insert it into an USB adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?

HP Pavillion dv6700 - black screen

Do the following without the battery inserted.

Let the computer sit with no battery for 24 hours. Do not put the battery in at all. Try using your original memory stick ONLY, with no hard drive and see if it will POST. If it does, insert the hard drive and try again. Could be the new memory...

Another thing you can try is reseating the processor. Turn the ZIF screw, take the processor out (WATCH THE PINS!!) and put back in GENTLY. Leave the memory in the computer, hard drive removed, try to power on.

These models have been known for bad motherboards. Contact HP and arrange to send it in. If you do enough digging on HPs website, you'll find the service advisory.

Hello I have an HP Pavillioon dv2210 us. It

I contacted hp about this problem since i saw many other models had the same issue and were replaced.. ..this model did not belong to any free replace/free repair lists and a motherboard chanche would've cost 900+€, so i came up with a perfect solution: 1. Place the computer on top of two 2 inch high iron tubes/bricks/anything hard enough and leave a gap between them. 2. Take a sledgehammer and release all of your frustation-caused force, hitting the middle of the laptop and the gap.. 3. Go buy a new laptop and make a double check it is not a hp/compaq product ;)

I can't get the full capacity of 320 gig drive

the hard drive you bought is not compatible with your motherboard. I am pretty sure that your board is only compatible with IDE ATA hard drive. you can still use it as external hard drive though.
