Cannot get MCOOK4 to work when transferred to a new computer. Are there hidden files I need to deal with? I remember something about the newer versions not being compatible with 4.0

How exactly did you "transfer" it to the new computer? Copy it to a storage medium (CD-R/RW, USB Stick, etc) and drag in onto the new computer? (to save your recipees?)

or

Did you take your MCOOK4 software and install in on your new computer and its not working?

(if you did "Drag" it to the new computer there are vital registry entries. (instructions on on when where and what to use for that program) it cant just operate by its root file. IF you do need to recover data off the old pc's recipees there are steps i can go over with you that i just typed out to another person respond and ill send them on :)

Flash drive

If it is just to transfer it from Flash Drive to computer
  1. Open the flash drive with file explorer (Windows explorer)
  2. Point to and select the file and Right Click the mouse.
  3. Select option Copy (can also be done by CTRL C)
  4. Go to your hard drive select the place where you want the file stored.
  5. Right Click to choose Past (or Press CTRL V)

However to install it so that it can run, you explore the file on the flash drive or the one transferred to the computer and look for a file called Setup or with the title name of the software Mavis. Select and click. The installer should open to guide you through the installation.

I transferred Approach to a new computer and imported the old files into it. All 3 databases transferred properly, but today, 2 of the 3 database returned this error message: "This Approach file may...

hi Igot3,

Question The following error occurs when opening a specific Lotus Approach file (.apr):
"Record Header Size 0x8006 bytes too small."

Cause This issue can indicate a damaged Approach file.
Answer If the error occurs when a file is accessed on a network, try bringing the file down to your local hard drive and opening it from there. If the error does not occur, you may have a damaged network card.
If the issue occurs when the file is opened locally, the file is probably damaged. In some cases, launching the database separately and importing the Approach file may resolve the issue and retain most of the Approach file design elements. In other cases, the file size for the .apr file is indicated as zero (0) bytes. In this case, there is no real data in the file and the file cannot be retrieved. The only workaround is to restore a backup copy.

Best Practices Tip: It is a good idea to create a backup copy of an Approach file before making any significant design changes. Open the file and from the File menu, choose Save As --> type a different file name. You will be prompted to also rename any associated databases which you can choose to do or not. As long as the .apr is the only file that is corrupt, the backup copy can always be associated with the current .dbf datab

After uploading the application software for Rosetta Stone, I try and start the application and I receive: there was an error in the application. error 2123. How do I fix this problem for my iBook G4...

I started getting "Error 2123" recently, and spent A LOT of time searching for the fix. Here is what finally worked:

Find the hidden file "tracking.db3". It's in the hidden folder "ProgramData/Rosetta Stone" under the "C:" directory. Copy and paste it to the Rosetta Stone install directory (Program Files/Rosetta Stone).

Error 2123 should be gone, but now there will be Error 2125. So, in the Rosetta Stone install directory, run the "service_installer" .exe file by double-clicking it.

When I install it says sound card disabled file not found. We do have windows xp and we have tried loading this on 2 different computers.

Does your sound work normally on the computers ?

If so then you should check the support or QA section of DK but they are in the AVANQUEST web site and are prone to problems

If this is older software then there is a chance that the sound may not work on newer computers. That is a common thing with many older software packages. and unless you are tech savvy with sound card software it can be a challenge to get it going
by older I would include most software over 7 years old

How to increase Virtual Memory?

In Windows XP
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768

In Vista

1. Click Start button Picture of the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Choose System and Maintenance and then click System.
4. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.
5.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
6. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, choose Change.
7. Click Custom to change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size. See the hot tip above.

Remember to choose the drive you would like to use to increase the virtual memory. In most cases it usually your C: Drive. You can set the initial size and maximum size after clicking the Custom size check box.Remember its better to keep the Virtual memory values the same.

Also having enough available space is absolutely necessary for your virtual memory and RAM to function properly.

Petz 5 problem/ .cat files

.cat files are secure catalog files. Are the files in the correct folder? The file location should be something like Programfiles>Ubi Soft>Studio Mythos>Petz 5>Resource>Catz. If the files aren't in the Catz folder under resource, they won't work.

Error that wont go away

Please be careful when running any sort of tools on the registry. Since almost everything in windows has a registry entry you MUST be very carefull when doing anything to the registry. IMPORTENT : Back-up the registry BEFORE doing anything to it. The problems you are having right now COULD be because of changes made to the registry. It is hard to know because you didn't post EXACTLY what the error messages were. I can only guess what happened: 1) Possibly references to .net driver paths where re-written or deleted, A re-install of windows .net should fix this problem. 2) The path to your outlook inbox files could have been rewritten and/or possibly deleted. If you cannot find the path to these files (if they are still there) and enter that path in to the registry, then you have probably lost your local copy of your saved email. In that case there is no fix. My recommendations: 1) Always back-up, back-up, and back-up some more (you never know when something will go wrong) 2) Always take note of the exact error messages the computer gives you. It is THE only solution to any problem. Also to save you panicking, most of the registry entries regcure reports on (as with ALL registry repair tools) are NOT a problem. MOST of these entries are MRU entries (recent files applications remember), missing shortcuts, directory's and the like, nothing of which will harm your computer. You really only need to run a registry cleaner once every few months.
