Question about 3Com NBX 3102 IP Phone

3Com 3102 unable to connect to NBX 100

I have a 3102 IP phone (#C10402B) that will not connect to our NBX 100. It recognizes that the network is there, but is stuck on the message:

Connecting to NCP:
L2 (NCP MAC) xxxx:xxxx:xxxx

Our NBX is running Version 6.0.63.

What could be causing this?

    Same problem. Must be a phone issue since all the other phones connect quickly. Also, when the phone finally does connect, it does not work correctly.

The problem is licensing for a 3102 phone. I doubt an old NBX 100 has a group 2 license. The 3102 requires a license to run unlike the 1102 or 2102.

    I have several 3COm V3000 and V3001 systems and over 400 phones. I have 3 NBX 100s and a V5000. I looked at my NBX 100 and it isnt License for 3102 Group 2 phones. The V3000 and 3001 cone with 15 by Default. This is the issue I assume.

What's the number for customer service for 3com


3Com was purchased by HP and has discontinued the NBX product line and support. They have also as of September 31, 2013 stopped selling licenses. Some resellers are still able to get them but I'm sure that will stop soon enough. The NBX tech support number I had was for tech support is now a prize hotline number.

I get the message: 3Com Model 3102- Wait for NCP M We have never seen this before and it is after a power outage. Our server is running. What is NCP?


Hello.

NCP stands for Network Call Processor. There is a problem with communication. Since your server is running, reset your router (disconnect power, wait a few minutes, then reconnect) that supports your IP phone.

Problem! INternet (DSL) line is down so I have put in a 3G USB Dongle which has restored internet.... but somehow some of the phones on our NBX 100 have lost connectivity - just say 'Wait for NCP' on...


The problem would be more than just internet in order for the phones not to work. they just need to be plugged in to a switch on the network to be able to communicate with the phone system and the other phones. Probably a switch or the DSL router if it has a built in switch.

No network problems 3com phones can't get connected to dhcp


Assuming you are talking about remote phones, you need to program the NCP (call processor) IP into the phones manually or add option 187 to your DHCP scope. The phones are able to DHCP the just also need to know what the IP address of the phone system to connect to is. If the phones are on your local network then this is all unnecessary. They work at layer 2 locally and don't need to use an IP address or DHCP.

If the phones are only 6-8 months old you should be calling 3Com. those phones have a 1 year warranty and once you register them they will help you troubleshoot and replace them if needed. Can you provide more detail? Do you have any network issues while this is happening? Does speakerphone work but the handset doesn't?

Cant connect additional 3102 to nbx. Please help!


3102 phones require group 2 licenses purchased from an authorized NBX reseller. if you don't have enough the system will not allow the phone to be discovered. You can check this unler the licenses tab while logged into the phone system as administrator.

Delete the MAc Address from the system and delete the user account. Re add the phone.

RJ 45 port connection problem


when these phones lose the network connection you can power cycle the phone but the pone will lose the connection again. just repalce the phone or you'll be fooling wiht this forever.

Roll back phone software


The phone is in a continuous because it is trying to connect to the NBX. You need to make sure it is on the same network as the NBX. Also, within the NBX you need to make sure Auto-Discovery is enabled. You also need to check how many group 2 licenses you have, as this phone requires one to run on the NBX.
