Question about iiyama ProLite E380S-S 15" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Speakers - no volume

The monitor is approx 3 years old and we have recently starting using it again. However there is no sound at all from the inbuilt speakers. Using the buttons on the monitor I have checked that "Mute" is off and Volume is showing at 100%. Can you help please?

Double check that the speaker wire (green) is connected in the back of the monitor and into the back of your pc into the green connection, if it is and there is no sound you can always use a seperate pair of speakers, as it will be cheaper than repairing the monitor.

Speaker in the Monitor?

It looks like there are no speakers according to:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/monitor/0000/Acer/X193/X193sp2.shtml

You should be able to use any external speakers to your system. The question is looks and power. You will likely have to buy speakers that have power in order to get enough volume.

Most speakers that come with monitors are of very, very low quality. You now have the option of buying good speakers (if you want to pay for them). If you are in a hurry you can likely pick up cheap speakers at the drugstore or Walmart. Another option is headphones.

Good luck finding the right sound.

Hi, I have a Samsung SyncMaster215tw, I've been using speakers to hear music and movies but recently gave them away, how can i get sound directly from the monitor?

The manual (you can download it here if you need a copy) shows an audio input jack right next to the VGA input connector. This jack takes a 1/8-inch stereo plug the same as the output jack on the computer. You can use the same cable that is usually supplied with computer speakers. Just plug the cable into the computer's sound output jack and the monitor input. I'd recommend setting the volume on the computer to maximum, and using the monitor volume control to adjust your sound.

I am thinking of buying a used Hansol 550 - three years old. Do they deteriorate with age ? Do all the old models have speakers fitted ?

3 years old will more likely to need new set of caps, not all monitors come with built-in speakers. See failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
I would not buy a 3 years old 15", save the money for newer and bigger monitor.
