The cable needs to be re-adjusted for the auger. At one end or the other there should be a threaded section with 2 nuts ( 1 on either side of the frame or bracket), to adjust the tension on the idler pully for the auger. Loosen the 2 nuts then tighten up on the nut that brings the threaded end closer to the end of the cable. Then snug up the back nut and see if the auger still turnswhen you start up the blower. Only loosen a little at a time so that you dont make it to loose

Tecumseh lh318sa auger does not work

If you are asking about the pull cord and when you pull it the engine does not turn and the cord pulls super easy it generally means that the dogs inside the cove assembly are not engaging. This may be caused by a broken spring or dog inside the pull cord assembly. You would need to carefully remove the assembly cover from the engine and pull the cord to see if the dogs are protruding from the assembly if not you would need to repair or replace the parts as needed if so then you would have to check if the will still extend under strain, if not then repair if they still protrude under strain you would have to examine the engine where the unit was removed and look for damage or wear and replace parts accordingly. If you are in fact asking about the front or snow auger on the snow blower itself then the most likely answer would be that you have sheared a pin which holds the auger to the shaft that rotates it. The shear pins (as they are called) are designed with softer metal to break if you hit a large piece of ice, stick or rock that may damage more important and expensive parts of the blower if they stayed intact during the incident. To fix this merely find the hole in the auger along the shaft that is no longer pinned (the auger should spin freely) spin it to line up with the hole n the shaft (which may still have a broken piece of the shear pin in it) drive out any remaining pin with a punch and replace with the appropriate pin for your machine. If the pins are intact you may have a bad belt, pulley, or tensioner and you would have to move further into the repair process.

I have a honda ccr2450 and with the heavy snow today it clogged and now the auger doesnt seem to turn to speed and is slipping, not throwing snow etc, is this an easy fix. thanks carl

You have a two stage snow blower. The first stage in your auger and they are equipped with a safety shear pin. Consult your owners manual for proper pin or shear bolt replacement.

I lose power and stall when i engage clutch to spin snowthrowing blades on my mtd 24" two stage snowblower. any way to fix?

You probably have a small rock or stick jammed in the smaller throwing auger. Carefully rotate the small auger backwards using a stick/board and tapping with a light hammer till the jamming object pops out. Be careful not to place your hands or fingers in even if it is not running. Worst case scenario the worm gear that rotates the larger auger is broken and jammed and needs replacement. If both augers move freely then you will have to remove the cover under the motor and inspect the belt drive mechanism.

I have a mtd snower blower the engine and auger work buk the wheels stop turning

The most common cause of this is the drive belt is worn or broken. Sometimes the drive cable stretches (from the handle to the trans)
To check the belts and tension you remove the cover (usually plastic) in the middle of the snow thrower to look at the belts. Your operator's manual will show you how to remove the cover and check/change the belts.
If you don't have a copy you can get the manual through managemyhome.com You will need the model number off the snowblower. It is usually located on the bottom right hand corner of the frame (from the handle side) The model number looks like 247.123456.
The belt closest to the engine drives the transmission. With the engine not running, have someone depress the drive lever and check the belt.
You should only be able to depress the long side 1/2 inch or less. More than that the belt has stretched and needs to be replaced.
On some older blowers you can adjust the tension pulley, but most made in the last 15 years, you can't.
The belt may be frayed on the edges or glazed causing it to slip (it is shiny on the sides of the belt) It may be torn and broke completely.
You can get parts for your Craftsman and most MTD made models through searspartsdirect.com or jackssmallengines.com.
If you are unfamiliar with repairing machines you can get your MTD snow blower repaired by taking it to your local Sears. They will have a technician troubleshoot and repair the unit.

Ariens snowblower auger wont turn

Just finished repairing my ariens, 6 years old with aluminum gear box. Same problem encountered. The problem turns out to be the BRONZE gear driven by the worm shaft. Shear bolts did not shear and bronze gear broke about 5-6 teeth. This is why you can move the auger a half turn or so, there are no gears in one area of the gear and as the gear turns to engage the worm drive it will stop. The fix: the cast iron replacement from ariens! About $200 including shipping, got mine from Jack's Small Engine (MD). Fairly easy repair if you are mechanically inclined. Buy yourself a set of roll pin extractors ($20 from Sears), new roll pins, new woodruff key for shaft. You will also probably have to press 2nd stage impeller from shaft with hydraulic press & heat (took mine to my local auto garage). What stinks is ariens seemed to have admitted the design problem with the aluminum gearbox, yet won't help with repair cost! Anyways, I learned a lot about my snowblower for future repair (belt replacement)!
