120GB HDD only shows up as 16GB thumb drive

I originally hooked it up via the transfer cable to save data from a 16GB HDD to the 120HDD and the XBOX said it needed to be configured. When my 120GB HDD is connected via transfer cable, the XBOX lists it as a 16GB thumb drive. When I have the HDD in the console itself XBOX doesn't even recognize it's there.

16 GB is the maximum USB storage the XBox will allow, but you may have up to two devices connected at the same time (which means nothing for your current situation, sorry). This is Microsoft's way of saying you should've opted for the larger internal hard drive.

How can I make my own xbox 360 data transfer cable? All I need is the collor code so I can cut a USB cable and hook the cut end to the new xbox hard drive to tranfer all data from one to the other.

You stick your tongue into the xbox 360 HDD port, shove the HDD into your *** with as much force as possible, and put your smallest digit into the USB 2.0 port on your computer. That's that, and the job is done.

Moved live profile to another machine but all content off other hard drive as not moved help ????

This is due to the fact that you have simply recovered your profile. None of your game saves or downloadable content are moved this way. To move them, you'll need an Xbox 360 Transfer Cable.

It won't work unless you moved from a 20GB or 60GB Hard Drive to a 120GB though. Call Microsoft's Support line (the US one is 1-800-MY-XBOX, or something similar; check Google before you dial), and ask for a 360 Transfer Cable.

They will ask you for the Console Serial Number, and after you give them it, you will get your Transfer Cable when it is posted to you.

Loading pre existing data

That means the file is corrupted, and you must start a new game. In the future, backup your game saves on a thumb drive from time to time. Just like any computer system, files become corrupted over time, hence the need for backup's. In your dashboard area you will find where you can backup your hard drive info. A 16gb thumb drive will do in some cases, but in others you will need to have an external HDD. Any usb external will work as long as it is FAT32 format!
