Check your printer driver in the control panel and see if the "print color as back" checkbox is checked. :)

I've just changed the black ink cartridge on a canon mp140 without changing the colour one but it still won't work. Do i have to change the colour one too because i only want black?

Hi both of the ink cartridges need to have ink in if one is empty then it just wont work, a lot of people think they can just replace the black but find out they need to replace both to be able to use the printer, their is no way around this and their are no settings you can change to turn the color ink off,

sorry their is no easy solution but without replacing the color as well it just keeps giving you warning and wont allow you to print anything

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

I have an Canon IP4000 printer that is not printing black text. It is printer colour but not black. I have replaced all the ink cartridges but only colour is working. Please help!!

pretty familar with that printer and if you have new cartridge check the head cleaner. If you clean the heads a couple of times that might unclog the black cartridge. Check inside your settings. I know you can turn the color completely off with that model but am not sure if you can turn the b+w off.

Have changed Ink Black and Colour... Stil getting error Message.

Make sure the tape covering the hole on the bottom of the black cartridge is removed. and then go into the printers folder and right click on your printer icon and go into the properties of that printer and there should be something in there to tell it that you changed cartridges and you can also print a test page as well.

Why does it keep running out of color ink, while printing only Black and White?

Whilst you rarely print in colour, its important to know that you should try to print in colour at least once a week. This will reduce the risk of your colour nozzles blocking up.

Many people have gone out to replace their 'hardly used' colour cartridges when they dont work, thinking that they have dried up, when infact its simply blocked nozzles.

If you want to keep your colour nozzles and ink ready to run, just do a full colour alignment every 1-2 weeks. Minimal ink usage there and you keep your Canon MP780 running well!
