I replaced the printer tape today, and now it will only print one vertical line, then it shuts itself off. It is not even printing the correct length, it's the same length every time with a short vertical line through the center (like a small letter L).
Background: We used the printer quite extensively in the fall, then a few weeks later it woulnd't even turn on. (I believe my Brother P-Touch 85 was left "on" so long that it went dead.) I replaced all 6 batteries, then it worked fine for a while, until today.

Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is
turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software
program that came with the printer. When the software
program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should
again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

I replaced the batteries again (with the same kind) and the problem resolved itself. FYI - The Brother Customer Service Hotline also said to be sure you are using alkaline batteries.
