If the flag is not set correctly it will give you that error. Make sure flag is seated correctly.

    Hi barmstron800:

There is a tray 2 solenoid on the right side of the printer that is activated whin you load the tray into the printer. If that solenoid is not activated you will get an error. Lets start over.

    1. Remove tray #2.

    2. Rotate the white bushings on each side of the pick-up roller.

    3. Remove the left-side bushind by sliding the bushing to the left.

    4. Slide the roller and the shaft toward the left until they clear the hole in the right-side bushing, and then lift the right end of the shaft.

Installation is in the reverse as above.

The shaft has to fit flush and the flag has to be free and clear.

if you manualy move the flag and it is hard to move freely then it is not aligned with the roller or the black plastic shaft. they all need to lign up and move very easy (The Black Flag).

The printer will usually throw up a error code 13.XX on the display and the XX is a number that will indicate where in the paper path this error most probably occurred. Just follow the steps for your error on the below chart.
This link will take you to the user guide which will be helpfull identifying components and providing guidelines for most of the helpful hints and things you will need to know about this printer.

HP Laserjet Error Codes 0 - 19 Message on printer Display Panel What it means. What to do. 13.XX PAPER JAM [LOCATION] Media is jammed at the specified location (and possibly at other locations). If the message persists after all jams have been cleared, a sensor or sensor lever might be stuck or broken. For all jam messages, do the following: 1. Remove jammed print media from the specified location. Check the entire paper path for other pieces of media in the path. 2. Open and close the top cover to clear the message. 3. Check sensors and flags in the paper path for proper operation. 3.0 PAPER JAM [LOCATION] A non-specific paper jam occurred. 1. Remove jammed media from the specified location. 2. Verify the paper tray is fully closed. 3. Inspect and/or replace the feed and separation rollers. 4. Ensure there is no obstruction in the path, such as a torn piece of paper. 5. Open and close the top cover to clear the message. 6. Check sensors and flags for proper operation. 13.1 PAPER JAM OPEN INPUT TRAYS Paper-delay jam at paperfeed area. 1. Ensure that paper trays are loaded and adjusted properly so media can feed from the tray. It might be necessary to reduce the stack height of media in the tray. 2. Check the input area for obstructions such as media in the path. Also check to see if the registration assembly damaged or unseated. 3. Replace any defective sensors or flags. 4. Verify the media meets the specifications. 5. Check the pickup feed and separation rollers for unusual wear. Replace as needed. 6. Rotate the media in the input tray by 180° and/or turn it over On NX engines this is most likely the fuser flag or the ACPM. The ACPM has a photosensor hard-wired to the back of it. 13.10 PAPER JAM CHECK DUPLEXER Jam at duplexer. 1. Check the duplexer and the rear area of the printer for obstructions or damage. 2. Check the duplexer for proper operation. Replace the duplexer if a sensor is defective. On a 5si, 8000, or 8100 series laserjet a Duplex Jam can be caused by a tray 2 and 3 feed assembly failure. 13.14 For Laserjet 5si. This error is caused by a defective paper control PCA Replace paper control PCA. 13.2 PAPER JAM OPEN INPUT TRAYS Paper-stopped jam at paper-feed area. 1. Check the input area for obstructions such as paper in the path. Also check to see if the registration assembly is damaged or if the transfer roller is out of place. 2. Replace any defective sensors or flags. 3. Ensure the media does not exceed the maximum length. 4. If multiple sheets are feeding, it might be necessary to fan the media and reduce the stack height. Also, replace separation pad. 5. Verify that the fuser is properly installed. On NX engines this is an input jam. 13.20 PAPER JAM CHECK REAR DOOR Media stopped in the paper path during power on or when the top door was closed. 1. Remove all media in the paper path, and then open and close the top cover. 2. If the message persists after all media is removed: Check if media is jammed in the prefeed area. Replace any defective sensors or flags 13.21 DOOR OPEN JAM The top cover was open while printing. 1. Clear the jam and close the top door. 2. If the message persists, check the top door switch for proper operation. 13.5 PAPER JAM CHECK REAR DOOR Paper-delay jam at fuser. 1. Check the transfer roller and small media belt to ensure they are operating and can feed print media. 2. Check the paper path for obstructions at the transfer roller, toner cartridge, paper feed assembly, and fuser. 3. Replace any defective sensors or flags. 4. On tray 3, the bottom one, it trys to grab the papaer, then says paper jam. But theres no jam.

Hello,

The pickup rollers on your tray are worn out. If you pull out the tray and look at the pickup rollers they should have a rough surface and your are going to be smooth. The printer is trying to pickup the paper but can't so the printer thinks the paper is jammed. You will need to replace the rollers, a very easy thing to do. We sell the set of pickup rollers for $6.95 shipped.
Contact us at 318-447-9040 or [email protected] if you need a set.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hp laserjet 8150. i have a problem, tray 3 empty, always but have paper in tray 3

CAUSE: This error message indicates the paper present sensor flag in one of the trays does not detect paper in the tray. This could be caused by one of the following:
  • A broken sensor flag
  • The tray paper guides being set too close and restricting the paper from being pulled
  • The tray is not lifting
SOLUTION: Follow the steps below to determine the cause of a false TRAY X EMPTY message. Tray 2 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray.
  2. Open the duplex unit access door just above Tray 2 on the front of the printer.
  3. Check the black-paper present flag by looking in through the duplex access door.
  4. Open and close Tray 2 and observe the tray lifting looking through the duplex unit access door.
The tray lifts but the error is still present
  1. Inspect the paper present flag on the PIU located just behind the pickup rollers. Ensure the flags are present and not damaged.
  2. Remove the tray guides from the tray and reseat them. Ensure the guides are seated correctly and are in the correct slot for the size paper in the tray. Add paper to the tray and try printing again.
  3. Try another known good tray, if available.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present
  1. Remove the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and inspect the lifting plate in the tray for damage. Ensure it will lift freely by hand.
  2. Try another known good tray if available.
Tray 3 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray.
  2. Remove Tray 2.
  3. Open and close Tray 3 and verify it lifts by observing through the Tray 2 cavity.
  3. Try another known good tray if available.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present
  1. Remove the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and inspect the lifting plate in the tray for damage. Ensure it will lift freely by hand.
  2. Try another known good tray if available.
Tray 4 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray
  2. Open Tray 4 and check for an extra **** of paper stored on the left side of the tray. This can cause the tray to stall while lifting and result in a tray empty message.
  3. Defeat the interlock in the vertical transfer unit (VTU). Open and close Tray 4 and watch the tray lift through the VTU door on the lower-right side of the printer.
NOTE: Follow troubleshooting steps for Trays 2 and 3 when working with the 2 X 500 sheet-input tray.
The tray lifts but the error is still present
  1. Check the tray guides to ensure the guides are seated corrected and are in the correct slots for the paper size in the tray.
  2. Inspect the paper present sensor for damage.
  3. Check for any broken plastic pieces in the tray that may be a broken sensor flag.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present Defeat the VTU interlock on the right side of Tray 4. Open and close Tray 4 and observe the tray lifting.

Replace the tray 2 pickup roller assembly

The tray two pickup roller is a roller in the front of the tray. Remove tray 2 and place it on a level work surface. Locate and open the cover that is
next to the roller in tray 2.
Pinch the blue latch that is on the left side of the roller. Slide the roller off of the shaft.
Then you can slide the new roller back in.
CAUTION When you install this roller, make sure that it locks into place. Verify that the
roller is correctly oriented, and that the round, black spacer next to the roller is correctly
positioned against the locking pin on the shaft.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

PRINTER KEEPS SAYING LOAD PAPER FACE DOWN,WE HAVE BUT IT KEEPS REPEATING THIS MESSAGE

well sometimes if there is a pickup problem if this is a inkjet hp printer it will simply think that the paper tray is empty, and the pickup roller could be dirty.

if this printer is a laser printer then the sensor flags that sense the paper is malfunctioning and needs either to be replaced or cleaned it could be stuck, on some laser printers there is a set of microswitches that can get stuck too, this is if the printer is a mid range laser printer.

Printing problem with HP Laserjet P2015 printer

This can be an issue with one of the faulty sensor across the printer.
Please check if you are able to print from tray 1, e.g. a configuration page.
A config page can be printed by holding the Green Button and releasing it as soon as the Triangle light comes on. This would take approx 5 secs.
If the printer is able to print from tray 1, then it could be an issue with the tray 2 pickup sensor.
Check if the tray 2 pickup sensor ( a black plastic piece to the right of the tray 2 pickup roller) is moving freely (front and back), also check if tray 2 pickup roller is not able to rotate completely.

If the tray 2 sensor is not moving freely and of the pickup roller is rotating completely, then reseat the pickup roller.

Normal use with good media causes wear resulting in the need to periodically clean or replace the pickup roller. Additionally, the use of poor media might require more frequent replacement of the pickup roller. Replacing the pickup roller Complete the following to replace the pickup roller:

CAUTION: Failure to complete this procedure might damage the printer. Unplug the power cord from the printer, and allow the printer to cool.

Not working

Pull out the tray with paper.
You should find a moving plastic "tongue" near the middle of width in the area where your paper tray should go. It's a contact based flag for the device to consider how much paper is in the tray. Check if it's not broken or stuck in odd position. Move it back and forth several times, with no force, it goes very easily. When you lift the flag up, see message and blinking led stop appearing. Try to pull paper tray back in, add paper if error appears again. Enjoy!

HP 2420 Tray 2 Open or Empty

Needs feed roller replaced, you can see it when you remove cassette and look up, they wear and tray one uses a diiferent feed roller hence it still works. Cleaning the roller (rag with a little metho) sometimes helps but it should be replaced otherwise it will return.
