Question about Amana ARB1917CSL Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Buzzing noise near compressor on an Amana refer. PARB1917CSO

I replaced the overload relay( on side of compressor) , which is where the clicking noise comes from when the buzzing stops. Cycles about every five minutes and lasts for about fifteen-seconds. Still have buzzing, but less loud. Ends with a click noise which is why I thought it a relay.
Thanks:  Gil

Phil:  Thanks I'll try this tomorrow and let you know.  Gil

Phil: The rco did indeed fix the problem, thanks. Is this long term, life of the appliance whatever that means today or only temporary?

I replaced the overload relay on my  Amana fridge ARB1917 CSL, nothing happened. Then I added the rco410, which lasted for two months. Now I have only warm air and that hum again. What's next.

    Thanks:  Gil

Final answer is: If you have the Tecumseh compressor you are out of luck. There were two types used in this fridge and this is the bad one. It seems that when the change over from freon took place the research into compressors lagged. Repairmen don't waste  time with the Tecumseh. The good news is it is covered under warrantee for five years.

I can help , It was the relay , they can blow when they experience a hard start , by replacing it and having the same issue this means the compressor is locked up , they sell a booster for this that can sometimes free the compressor up , its called an rco410 , this part will be your only chance to get your compressor going again. let me know if you have any other questions and tell me how it works out.

It worked for me also. The $50.00 starter booster is doing a good job for 2 weeks now.

Amana side by side refridg/freezer. Freezer not freezing, everything defrosted. Getting a buzzing noise then a click, then buzzing stops. Compressor overload?

A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
It does a lot of clicking (trying to start over and over again)
If thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
I use part no ERP410 POWER START RELAY, CAPACITOR AND OVERLOAD all in one. (110 v)

Thank you for using fixya

My refrigerator/freezer is making a sharp buzzing noise followed by a loud click. Its been doing this every few minutes for a while, and now today, everything in my freezer appears to be defrosting.

Is that buzzing/click you hear from the compressor area?
If it is from their, the relay on the compressor has gone out, or the compressor is locked up.To determine which of those it is the amprage draw using a amp meter clamped to the wire on the overload thermostat where the relay is, must be measured, if 17 or higher amps the compressor has locked up, if its around 5 or so the relay has gone out and replacing both relay and overload will fix it.If the compressor has locked that is a major repair and may cost up to $1200

Our amana refrigerator is making a noise, a hum and then a "click". The freezer is no longer working and the fridge part is no longer cold. It's a 2004 and we don't know whether to get...

It sounds like you are hearing the overload on the compressor closing. When the overload closes the relay tries to start the compressor (that might be the buzzing sound) and if the compressor doesn't start the overload opens and turns the compressor off. You will need to replace the relay on the compressor.

Amana ABB222DE is the overload/capacitor the same thing as the compressor relay? I just had the compressor relay replaced in amana bottom mount. Frig cools fine but every 2 days or so buzzing noise...

I have been doing refrigeration for over 30 years and I have never seen a compressor with a chip inside of it. Have you tried cleaning the condensor coils? I almost sounds like you have a weak start capacitor. Let me know if i can help you any futher.

Refrigerator not cooling, freezer not freezing. Can hear fan running continuouisly and an occasional buzzing noise that lasts for about 20 seconds then ends with a clicking sound.

the buzzing and click noise is the ptc overload relay on the compressor, its bad, unplug it off the compressor and obtain a replacement and plug in the new one

Amana side by side model ars9167ab buzzing noise in or near compressor.

if you're hearin the buzzing noise followed by a click, about every 10-15 minutes, then it could be your starting relay on the compressor. The part number for the relay is 2319793.

Amana side by side, buzzing, no fan in fridge.

that sound is the relay/overload. it is trying to start the compressor. the problem is either that relay or the compressor itself

Amana/Maytag ACD2234HRS sometime not working

If your compressor is running with the noise you described, I would make sure the parts that were replace on compressor are working properly. Also use a amp meter and get a reading on amp draw while it is humming. Anything that is above normal readings for the compressor would indicate compressor is bad or the relay and starter are not working properly. I need a series number also like a number 15 before the model number, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Buzzing intermittent

It sounds like the ice maker. If you don't have the water hooked up, and the ice sensor bar is in the down position, the ice maker assembly will attempt to make ice continuously.
Solution is easy: raise the ice sensor bar until it clicks in the up position. It will lock in this position, and the ice maker will not cycle anymore.
