Remove water pump, check for thongs, baby socks and sometimes hair pins or even screws can obstruct the water pump.

Simply remove the pump and remove the obstruction that is keeping it from draining.

Let me know how that works out.

SOURCE: Washer will not drain displays

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

The "F02" on your model of washer indicates the machine has detected a fault or obstruction in the drain process. The same error as the "F21" on the later model Kenmore/Whirlpool units.

You`ve mentioned you inspected the hose, but I`m not sure what that includes or how far you went, so here is my suggestion...

Chances are the pump itself is being obstructed by debris or some other foreign object as opposed to being faulty, although the faulty pump can`t be ruled out...yet.

Here`s how to check it and clean it...

**Turn off the breaker at the service panel or unplug the washer from the wall socket...safety first**

1) locate the screws in front at the very bottom of the panel below the door and pull the panel down and forward until it is off. They will be either 1/4" hex head or #20 torx head screws.

2) You will immediately see the drain pump in front of you with a large removable filter. ( **see image below...this is were a wet-dry shop vac and towels come in handy, also the use of the removed panel as a catch pan is beneficial...but you may still get wet )
b3f3b21.jpg
3) Turn it counter-clockwise should allow you to remove it and inspect it and clean it out. Make a good thorough inspection inside the pump as well not just the removable filter.

4) Re-insert the filter and before placing the panel back run a test rinse/drain cycle to inspect for leaks and to verify the unit drains and spins now.

( If the problem still exist`s the "F21" will re-appear. If so you`ll need to check the hose/rubber bellows from pump to tub...back-flow ball...for other obstructions ).

5) If all appears OK after your efforts, well your efforts paid off...pat yourself on the back. You just saved yourself potentially a couple hundred bucks !

Now You should be good to go. Re-attach the lower panel and you`re back in business.

**NOTE: if this still fails to remedy the F21 or if it returns immediately during the next drain you may require a pump unfortunately...part # 280187 available at "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" etc.

**This however can also be caused by the back-flow ball inside the bellows which connects the tub to the pump. There is a large clamp which secures it to the tub, but if you remove it to clean out all the dirt built up inside, make sure you get it good and secure when putting it back.**

I have a Maytag Neptune washer (model MAH5500BWW) that won't completely drain. It goes through the normal cycles but, but water still remains in the tub. Could the pump be out and how can you tell if...

Check the pump out flow of the drain hose, is it a good strong flow or does it seem weak and restricted. If the drain is slow the machine will stop before it is empty. Also if the drain hose is not vented, mounted too high in the air, or has a piece added on making it longer, it may degrade performance.

Have a Maytag washer MAH8700AWW, I keep getting ND messag. Replaced water pump and machine still behave the same.

Hello, You may have not have had to replace the pump in all actuality. The ND error code can be caused by anything caught in the entire drain area which means from the port hole that comes out of the outter tub you would need to remove the hose that connects to this spot and then to the pump. Also you would remove the drain line after the pump as well and assure in both areas that there are no obstructions. If you still have the ND error code after you have assured you have no blockage in either of the above mentioned areas message me back for further diagnosis. Also after you clear the clogged area make sure you unplug the unit for 7-10 minutes this causes the control to reset which is easier then you haveing to go into diagnositic and clear the error code. I await your reply Thanks Rick

What the heck does nd stand for? Why does it sometimes say nf? Model MAH5500BWW

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

ND error in your Maytag Front Load washer indicates no drain issue. To start with check the drain hose for any clogs and try cleaning it, then check restriction in drain pump assembly or loose wire at the pump.
NF error in your Maytag is displayed due to no fill condition, when the washer tries to fill but is unable to, nf is displayed. Please check the water inlet valve for any clogs and obstructions, you can also clean the inlet to solve the issue. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I keep getting the error code nd on my Maytag neptune whats this mean?

Error ND means that there is a drain problem.

Either there is debris inside drain pump hose, or the pump itself is faulty.

The problem is fixed accessing the drain pump hose to check for a blockage.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Parts and diagrams available here.

we had the same problem with ours....nd means not draining and that means that there is something, probably coins stuck in your drain hose. pull the drain hose out and check it for change and make sure something isn't stuck.

Here is the solution I found that worked for me, there is a small drain hole at the bottom of the boot that is connected to a drain hose. Remove the hose and clean out to make sure that it has not become plagged. replace hose and reattach boot. Mine stoped leaking imediately.
