If you can, try with another USB cable. Might be a break in the cable somewhere. Try other USB ports. The connector on the bottom of the phone may be gummed up with something (happened to me with lint on my phone) see if you can blow it out/clean it out with an alcohol cloth.

Cant update my iphone 4 (model mc609ll )

Perform a recovery-mode restoreIf your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is already showing the "Connect to iTunes" screen, please go to step 5.
  1. Connect your USB cable to your computer but not to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until step 3.
  2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
    • If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
  3. While pressing and holding the Home button down, connect the USB cable to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The device should turn on.
  4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen. When this screen appears, you can release the Home button:

    Note:
If the image of a battery appears, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again. If you don't see the Connect to iTunes screen, try these steps 1 through 4 again.
  5. iTunes should automatically open and display the following message:
[img alt="Alert text: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode..."" width="520" height="241" src="http://km.support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECARE_ALLGEOS/HT1808/HT1808--recovery_alert-002-en.png" data-hires="true">
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
If iTunes not open after two minutes, please open iTunes yourself.
  6. Use iTunes to restore the device.

Bought my iphone 5 and am unable to charge using both the plug and computer. however am able to charge using the iphone 4 plug. please help!

Before you can charge your iPhone on the computer, your computer needs to install the drivers for it. You might have to reinstall the drivers for it. A good way to check if the drivers are incorrectly installed is to see if iTunes detects it. Try updating your iTunes since the old version of iTunes won't work with ios6 and all iPhone 5 are shipped with ios6

My iphone is not detected in my laptop i use windows i am able to charge it through the AC adapted but iphone is not detected in my laptop please help

I am not sure that what cause that problem, but we could check where problem comes and fix it. Please ensure that you are using the correct USB cable to connect to laptop. There is an USB cable just use for charging, don't use that cable to connect to laptop.
Also if you use correct USB cable, could you change to another USB port, to check your USB port on laptop.
Do you have Itunes on your laptops? Iphone works with Itunes.
Hope this will help.

If holding power and home for 6 secs. then releasing power (not Home) for around 10-20 more until itunes sees it. doesn't work try with the phone off, hold home button and plug in cable....itunes should detect the phone that way.

Iphone 8G forgotten password to unlock phone

The only way to bypass it is to put it into recovery mode. You can do this by turning it off and then holding the home button down then plugging it into the computer with itunes. The one you sync with. The phone will be in recovery mode, start iTunes and then you will be prompted to restore your phone. If you need further assistance, please ask.

My iphone wont turn on it will only go to a blak screen and say itunes

It needs to be configured. Plug it into iTunes, and it should detect it and ask to start setting it up. You should also have it pretty charged up if you can.
