S-video setup hi.. I have a Sanyo 27 inch... flat-screen tv.. I picked up an S-video connection for PS3, (I have the S-video connected, and the audio is sent into the AV2.) The problem is that I'm not getting any video or sound... is there a -1specific channel... Nothing is on Video-1, Video-2... or the component line (duh)... any help would be great! Cheers, Dan

Re: s-video setup

Usually, the s-video connection on tv is on back and channels to AV1...try another (friend's) tv.

Erase old videos

Ideally, you'll get a high-powered bulk tape eraser that is designed for video tapes and will work perfectly for audio tapes, as well. An audio tape eraser will work to a point, but usually won't blank them out completely since it doesn't put out a strong enough electromagnetic field to erase videotapes completely. I personally own an old Radio Shack high powered eraser and it works to erase both video and audio, as well as a demagnetizer for old color tv screens (when used at a distance...a bit too strong up close), and demagnetizing screwdrivers (the ones I don't want magnetized, that is). Hope that helps.

When you are using a FullHD upscaling model. I still have to a HD setbox

the set top box is required by your cable company.

if you plug cable directly into the TV and run an auto program from the TV menu it will find most channels. BUT it will not locate them correctly.

for instance I have comcast. Channel 58 is FX but WITHOUT a cable box it shows up as the following on my HDtv's

sharp 52" shows up as channel 83.10
RCA 27" shows up as 86.6
RCA 32" shows up as 89.3

its a pain in the ****. We rent 2hd boxes from comcast at 7.99 a month and I refuse to pay them any more per month.

Contrary to what most cable providers say you WILL pick up most channels and in fact you will pick up some HD channels without the box but you have to look for them and they won't be on the same channel on every TV.

Lastly cable companies also remodulaet their signals every once and a while so there will come a time when you will have to do the whole setup, autoprogram (ch scan) again and yes the channels will once again move to another channel.

cable sucks Comcast REALLY sucks

How can i connect Nintendo wii to avr-590. Have

To connect a Nintendo Wii to an AVR-590, I am assuming this is a Denon Receiver, you will need to connect the Nintendo Wii to the TV, then connect audio out from the TV to the AVR-590 Receiver, and select the receiver to be in Pro Logic. Depending on the TV, if you have fiberoptic output on the TV, you would hook a fiberoptic out from the TV to the AV Receiver, but you will still not get true Dolby Digital, just Dolby Pro Logic. This will be the most effective way to solve the problem. Hope This Helps

We have run our indoor/outdoor wireless speaker through our home theater system and the only sound we can get is in tuner mode. We are trying to run our tv through the speaker, any suggestions?

connect audio out from tv to audio in(aux in) on the theater, select aux on theater and you should get sound.
If you have no audio out on tv, use skart 2 (av2 au2 or how ever it's marked as most tv's send audio/video out through av2).
You can buy any comination leads to connect(skart to phono etc)

No audio from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100 7.1

Have you assigned the audio to the optical cable? I am doing the same thing with awesome results. Simply go into your PS3 main menu under System Settings. You can then go to either audio or video options. I prefer to go the Video Options route, since it will ask if you would like to change the audio as well. In Video Options it should state something about the Video Output and to the right of that you will see you current resolution settings. Select this and set your resolution options. It will then ask you if you would like to assign audio options, and you will need to choose yes. In here it will let you assign what port the audio should be assingned to. Choose the Optical Out option and then click enter. From there you should hear the sound through your Onkyo.

Video Out Genius needed

You better check for loose connection or cold solder joint,Unfortunately, the solder connection alone is often used to make both the electronic as well as the mechanical connections. Solder is made up of 60% lead and 40% tin, so it can not be expected to do the mechanical job for long. Designing larger circuit board traces does help to increase the surface area as well as strengthen the pad and the trace leading to it. To minimize stress to the soldered connections, physically heavy components — as well as all frequently used switches and connectors — should first be mechanically secured to the PCB. joint.jpgFigure 1 has been magnified and enhanced to show four solder pads that have potentially cold joints. Counter-clockwise from lower right, the initial problem isn't so easy to spot, just a slightly "grey" or frosted joint, with each counter-clockwise joint getting progressively worse. This is what ultimately happens when a little pressure is applied over and over again via both mechanical stress and repeated heating and cooling cycles. This would be the case in any studio and especially on the road. Once in this state, the connector could easily be removed from the circuit board with little effort, without soldering. Sometimes the solder connection holds up, but the junction of the PCB trace and the PCB pad will break.

No sound

Go into the TV Menu and access the sound settings, for the UK it would normally be set to I. This MAY need to be changed to a different setting. Try the options that are listed. Might fix it!!
