You may need to set up a security item...can't remember what it is, but you need to set up a password as well, to make the network secure

Remove the neighbor's network from the preferred network list.
add your own network in the list. If your router is old router then upgrade the firmware of the router. Firmware is the software of the router.
You have connected your laptop to the router, to secure the wireless network. When you connect the laptop to the router, make sure that the wireless network connection will be disabled.
Once you change the wireless settings, enable the wireless connection and connect to your network.

Trying to locate the wep key on the 54g belkin router? Any ideas if it is a sticker etc? Many Thanks

The Access Key was chosen during setup. If not written down, it can easily be forgotten. If all else fails, the router has a reset switch that will recover the router back to factory settings(unsecured), then you can secure the network using the key of your choice.

How do I put security on my Belkin 54g router

You set your security by enabling WEP.

When you get in the interface to configure WEP, set a pass phrase. Write down the 3 numeric keys it generates. Then connect to the wireless using your laptop, etc. When it asks for your passkey, do not enter the pass-phrase; enter one of the three keys that were generated by the router. That's the biggest mistake people make when trying to get wireless to work.

Are you using the Dell utility to connect to networks ? Try setting the network you want to connect to as your "Preferred" network in your wireless utility on your laptop. Also, try moving the network to the top of the list. Doing this might set it as your "Preferred" network.
