Keyboard one of my keys came off my keyboard, having trouble reattaching it, any solutions reattach key to keyboard

The 'Alt' key was pulled off of my Compaq V2000.
All the parts appear to be in tact, though getting the key to snap down in place is quite difficult.
Does anyone have step by step instructions?
I know that this is a difficult request, as the parts are quite small (three in total including the key itself).
    Thanks.

I had the same issue, I oredered another keyboard from E-bay and it was $20 and if you look up the installation instructions it takes 2 minutes to install.

Trying to put the keys back on will give you a heart attack!! The new keyboard that you will get allows them to snap back on with no effort.

I have to small children so I should know.

Have a Toshiba Satellite L505. My key was sticking, so I removed it. Under the A key are two smaller plastic pieces. Now I can't figure out how to reattach the key. Thanks!

LOL, it's much easier to just replace the keyboard. You can spend hours trying to get that key back on even if it can be put back on. You might have broken one of the little plastic catches.

I was cleaning my laptop keyboard and accidentally popped off the 'N' key, I'm pretty sure the brackets are still intact, but I don't know how to reattach it, could you explain how please?

Hello and welcome to FixYa,

Carefully remove the cap from any other working key so the key retainer stays connected to the keyboard.
keyboard-key-repair-2.jpg Take a closer look at the key retainer, it's connected to the keyboard at four different points.keyboard-key-repair-3.jpg Assemble the disconnected retainer the same way as one on the keyboard and put it back in place.keyboard-key-repair-4.jpg Put the key cap on the retainer and snap the cap back in place.keyboard-key-repair-5.jpg

It is that simple! They should just 'snap' right back on!

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

Reattach Shift key

If it's the same as mine, there is a little white plastic frame that sits under the mouse... Make sure the frame is attached to the underside of the mouse key, and press into position on the keyboard, pushing down onto the REAR of the button first, until you hear it click, then do the same to the front.

Need to reattach the W key on my Fujitsu Lifebook P7230

You may have broken a plastic "hinge", more like a tab or clip. Try taking it off again and examine the underside of the key. If it looks ok, try putting it back on. If a plastic tab/clip is broken on the left side, you should be able to go to a small computer repair shop and get a replacement key for it. That way you don't have to replace the keyboard.

The keyboard would need to be replaced because once the plastic tactiles are messed around with they loose there shape plus the metal pieces that the plastic tactiles stay on get bent as well which means the keys won't stay on as well and stay looser then normal, thats why its suggested to get a new keyboard.
