If you Google W1700 backlight you can find vendors that supply replacement backlight inverters. They usually run around $90. If you are handy electronically, you can probably repair yours for about $5. The normal fault on the W1700 backlight inverter is either one or two blown fuses and one or two faulty electrolytic capacitors. These are the tublar looking devices about an inch long and about diameter of a ballpoint pen. When these fail, the top of the unit will bulge out where the case has ruptured to allow gasses to escape.
