Question about Dell (3410160) Plug-In Module DVD Drive

Dell laptop install new dvd drive module and software

I have a dell inspiron 600m with cd player. I bought a new dell dvd drive module (c3284-a00) and software (dell dvd application cyberlink power dvd dx7.0 and roxio creator 9.0de). I'd like to install all this myself. I think module is plug in and easy to install. Am I right? Do I install software first with old cd player and then plug in dvd module or other way around. Which software disk first? I'm trying to save money and do this myself. Thanks for the help. Mike Z.

Hi,
Install the DVD drive first, mate.
Then when you install your Cyberlink and Roxio software, they will autodetect the drive. If you did it the other way round, it would probably still work, but the correct driver might not be installed and you would have to do find and do that manually.. and you would have to into the tools/options and select the new drive from the list.
So the drive first, then the software.

Hope this helps

Also the 2 disks are separate programs and not dependent on each other, so install both,in whatever order, but AFTER you install the drive.

When you install the hardware your computer should recognize it and automatically install the drivers but if you would like to be on the safe side run the software will the old drive first and then install the new one.

If you are installing an internal drive you do not need any software, the module is completely plug and play, just insrt the drive in the slot and screw it back after removing original one.

What you have to do is replacing the Cd player drive with the DVD, by unlocking and unscrewing the safety screws on the bottom side of the laptop.

Ensure that battery is out and poer charger not connected when you do this.

Once you pull out the Drive jiust push in new DVD drive, screw back and restart the unit.

The module will be detected automatically.

The software is a separate matter, you can install the software on Windows at any time, but it is better to install the software after you fit in the new DVD drive, and after you restart the computer .

I will be grateful if you can give me feedback on this.

    Many thanks.

No the software is not important as the drive has all what it needs with windows.

basicly a service manual for your laptop is what you need to take it apart easyly.

replace the drive

Load any extra software you require.

Step 1: Turn on your computer Step 2: Go to START then open it Step 3: Open CONTROL PANEL Step 4: Click where says SYSTEM Step 5: then a new window will open Step 6: Now you have to look for the CD and DVD devices and click on then Step 7: And finally on the top bar click on SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES and that's it your cd/dvd must be working properly after you have done all of these steps. Can't get new DVD RW to work

Go to the Manufacturer's site of the burner and look for firmware, download and install -and to make sure it (the burner) is compatible with you operating system vista or XP
You should have received a disc with the burner ...run it, even if you are going to use some other burner program.
If you can't find what you need, write again with the name and model of burner and the operating system you are using.
Hope this helps... Please leave rating...
