If your good with a sodering gun and know how to work on printed circuit board, yes you can change the IC's your self for about 50 or so bucks, but if you have no solid state repair experience, I highly advise you to call a pro to assist you with this repair. You will need to get a service manual, the IC,s and then after that you would need to put the TV set into the service mode and make the necassary aligments to the set as well as the convergence circuit.
And I'm afraid that when the IC(s) blew out, it may have taken out a resistor or pico fuse out with it and you will now most likely need the service manual so you can check the voltages on the convergence IC's.
This is not a common DIY'ers fix. Please seek Professional help.

All you need is a set of convergence amps, a temperature controlled soldering iron with a small pointy tip to get between the pins on the IC and some Chemwick Lite in the blue package and some 63/37 solder and some heat sink compound....

    Install them and VOILA....job done.

You don't even NEED a set of schematics for that job.....

The mechanism that lines up the 3 color lenses is not self-calibrating properly. Probably needs to be returned to a repair service.

Hello,

If a problem corrects itself after a few minutes, you probably have a bad capacitor in the convergence/pincushion circuit of the TV. It has probably drifter out of specification, and is near the end of it's life.

Any competent repair shop should be able to help you for around 100 dollars.

Hope this helps you...

Oh, and Convergence IC's usually go out all together. If the problem corrects itself, I doubt very seriously that is a convergence IC issue.

Convergence board

You problem is the convergence IC's. This is much less expensive to fix than a red crt. Sometimes it is bad connections. Can you tap on the side of the tvand make the red correct itself?. If not, have the convergence IC's replaced and the problem will be solved.

Distorted picture on RCA LCD TV

I have the same tv. Had repair man come to my home in late april. Said it is the power convergence board. $225 for parts and labor I was told. Bad thing is part was supposed to arrive mid-may,then mid-june and now mid-july. He say's part is on back order. I'm actually going to contact RCA soon to find out if this is true. This seems to be a common problem with this particular T.V
