Question about Toshiba 61HX70 61" Rear Projection Television

Scratch in sreen

I have a 61h71 tv and recently it to moved to the basement. Somehow I have developed what looks like a scratch behind the screen protector in the upper left hand corner. This scratch can be seen when set is off or on and must be in the lenticular or fresnel screen. I have removed the entire screen and the internal screen has no marks and the screen protector is spotless any ideas??

The mark starts about 2 inches from the top goes down a couple of inches and hooks to the right I have a photo if that would help.

Yes, this scratch is visible when the set is off

  • astalker Jan 07, 2009

it goes down gradually hooking to the right . How do I get you a photo?

The Horizontal line is a fold in the picture I scanned.

  • jason May 11, 2010

the dashed part of the line is a vibration scratch, you must look very carfully at the area that it is in , has the protector screen been taken off to clean it in there before ?

  • jason May 11, 2010

you do not have a protection screen on the front , do you ? does the front feel like there is ridges in it ?

it looks like a scratch across those ridges on the screen( can be very hard to see on the screen when looking at it in certain angles and lighting)

Sounds like separation in the fresnal screen.

I'm not sure I want to post my addy here

the green symbol where you type in your next comment at will let you browse in your computer for it

  • David Friedel May 11, 2010

Is that a straight vertical line going down two inches then hooking to the right at the bottom, or going down 2 inches while gradually hooking to the right?

    A picture would probably help!

  • jason May 11, 2010

have you checked the reflection mirror?

What shape is the crack? Is it a curve like a half moon?

By the looks of that picture, it's hard for me to believe that the scratch is not on the outside of the protective plexiglass screen. However, you can remove the protective screen w/o negative effect of the picture. In fact, it will probably reduce the glare from light on the screen. If, in fact, the scratch is still seen w/o the protective screen installed, then it is the lenticular screen that is scratched.
The lenticular screen is the one with the vertical grooves from top to bottom in it. The fresnal is the back screen that appears to have been lathed in a circular pattern.

My toshiba 61h71 has a reddish tint to it. Turned it off one night and it looked fine, next morning it got this reddish tint. Tried resetting the convergence but that didn't change the situation at all....

A Reddish tint means that the Green signal is missing. Does the on screen menu look normal? If so, this points to the signal source. The fact that this happend suddenly, I would check your cables first.
Using YUV?
If the TV's Menu also looks reddish then there is an internal problem with the display.
Good luck

Moving TV

First put a flatenned moving box to cover the screen and then put a blanket on the screen and then tape it up. This would help with the scratches. Get two long flat ropes than can slide under the tv (side to side) and the tie the ends together, get a helper and then both you and the helper put the ropes behind your neck while lifting and also supporting with your hands. This is how professional movers do it. Once its in a truck, put the flat side facing the truck wall and tie it up.

No picture with Vertical bars across screen

It sounds like one of the flexes on the LCD cube has either become unplugged/ loose, (there is a gate that locks the flex in connector on the DMD board), or flex damaged. Has the TV recently been moved or strongly jarred?
