Question about Combination Televisions

Black box i keep getting a black box on my screen with the words. [e:20000] and repeats its self! Exact same black box with same web address, on my 13 inch Panasonic/ with VHS player on it. It is not the T.V.! I am permanently disabled, and need a T.V. to help pass bed time. I don't have cable access outside of town, and can't afford Direct T.V. I am very angry over this block being placed on my T.V. c.sudak@yahoo.com

This is probably TEXT1 or TEXT2 data, which is an extension of Closed Captioning. Try cycling through the CC settings using your remote to turn it off.

I also had the "black box...kidswb" problem today. I tried several things. I finally unplugged the TV and converter box, then re-connected them. It has worked so far. Over an hour and no black box.

FYI. I have no cable, dish, or antenna; only an HD converter box with tunable rabbit ears. I believe the black box was received somehow through my converter box. While trying to get rid of the black box, I tuned the rabbit ears. As I did this, the digits in the black box addresses varied and loaded much slower. It would be interesting to find out how many people with the black box problem have HD converter boxes.

Black tv screen with line across

Vertical output IC has failed. It should be replaced. You haven't given the brand name and model number here. I assume that it is a Toshiba TV. If so, Visit this site for more details. Type in the site name "Electro-help" either Google or Yahoo search box [not in the address bar of your browser], and click search. It is an electronic equipments service help site. All details you want are there. Note the position of hyphen in between words in site name, when you type it in. The site will appear as it is in web; subtitled as service help to electronic home entertainement equipments.

How do I turn off demo mode

To exit the self-demo mode, with the TV on, press and hold Play/Repeat for 5 seconds (possibly a bit more). If you press and hold the button again, you will go into the demo mode. Panasonic has the manual at their support site: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Televisions/TV-Combos/Operating-Instructions/model.PV-C1320.O . The direct link to the manual is http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/PVC1320.PDF .

I hope this helps.

The screen keeps flashing a blue box with the name Panasonic and all the features of the tv and I can't get it to stop.

Press and hold the Play / Repeat button on the TV. It will beep and give you some message about inserting a cassette. Just hold the button for a few seconds. Should do the trick. Worked for me.

Black box in middle of screen

It's a text box for either closed captioning or demonstration mode. Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning. If you have trouble doing that, then just restore factory settings.

Black box in middle of screen

Note that the large black box goes away when pushing buttons on the tv (ex: the black box will disappear to show the volume setting when changing the volume on the tv but it will cover the picture and the menu display of the dtv box).

This is caused by the closed caption setting of the television set NOT the captioning of the converter box. To fix this you must open your television's menu, find the ccd/closed caption option, and turn it off. This is a frustrating problem as when most people are told to shut off the captioning they try to do so at the box.

Normal dtv box captioning will appear as a small text box at the bottom of the screen as you would expect - not as a giant black rectangle that covers most of the screen. If you do want to shut this off too you will find that you can't do it through the usual menu options (the menu will only allow changes to font, color etc.) - there should be a ccd button on the remote that when pushed will scroll through ccd-1, ccd-2,... off.

Do I need a dtv digital converter box for my Symphonic SC313D 13 inch tv?

Pretty much a hoax on those diverter boxes. People ran out and bought them thinking that won't have reception. I have many years in maintenance and several years in nursing homes with different tv's in every room. Not once have I needed a box to pick up channels with or without cable. I myself get 16 channels with rabbit ears and thats enough for me. And I do own a combo as well and it has simple antenna and does me just fine. Depending on your location, the old tv antennas we use to put on our houses...they work amazing! Might be able to snag one on a freecycle or craigslist site. Good luck! :)

Black Box On Screen

Salutations Cranberries,

The annoying black box is usually a feature of the closed captioning called "Text" You should be able to go in to onscreen menu and select caption options. Unless you need to have the closed captioning on for medical reasons, it maybe best just to turn off all captioning options.

Hope this helps.

Hold down the play/repeat button on the TV itself for 5 seconds. That toggles in and out of demo mode. ;)
