by the way, i dont have a webcam cam. why do i need drivers? and besides, my skype can receive cam images from other people. i mean i can view their webcam in skype. why not in yahoo messenger? in addition, i cannot receive files in YM but i can receive chat. i tried to turn off my firewall already. still it doesn't work

  • georel_gambi Jan 08, 2009

thanks but it doesn't work. the problem begins when i want to click the "View Webcam" link. wherever it is, in tool bar or beside the contact's name, nothing is happening. it's like a link connected to nothing. i even used short cut keys. i even accepted the contact's request to view his cam. but there's no reaction. no pop up. no message at all.

regarding the file transfer problem. yes i already clicked the save as button. and it showed the download status bar. but... its not moving. and not even downloading..

    help pls

You don't need to have a webcam of your own to see someone else who is broadcasting on their webcam.

There are a few ways to view a webcam:

    In your Messenger Window:

    1. Click the "Actions" menu in the Messenger window.
    2. Select "View Webcam."
    3. Click the contact's ID.
    4. If the person isn't in your contact list, click "Other Contact."
    5. Enter the Yahoo! ID of the person whose webcam you wish to view.
    6. Click "OK."

    IM Window:

    1. Select "Actions" from the IM window menubar.
    2. Select "View Webcam."

The contact needs to approve your request to view their webcam. Once they approve, though, you'll be all set.

    Chat Window:

    1. Select the person whose webcam you'd like to see from the Chat List.
    2. Click the Webcam icon in the Chat toolbar.
    3. Select "Contact Options."
    4. Click "View Webcam."

When you receive a message that contains an attachment, you'll see in the Yahoo! interface a (paper clip) next to the size of a message in your inbox or other folder. (Note: To learn how to work with attachments using POP mail, please refer to your POP mail client's help files.)

Attachments can be included in a message in two different ways. It may appear within the body of the message (inline) or in an attachment box near the bottom of the message window.

Below are the procedures for viewing and/or saving the two types of attachments.

Attachments displayed within a message (inline):

To view an inline attachment, just read the message to which it is attached.

If the inline attachment is an image, and you would like to save it to your computer, do the following:

    1. Right-click the image and choose either "Save Target As..." or "Save Image As..." (Macintosh users will need to click and hold the mouse rather than right-clicking.)
    2. A new window will open. You can now save the attachment as a file. Note the name and destination of the file so that you can find it later.

If the inline attachment is text, and you would like to save it to your computer, do the following:

    1. Click the "Download" link at the top or bottom of the frame.
    2. Your message will separate into its component parts, allowing you to save each attachment separately from any text.
    3. Right-click the "Download" link next to the desired attachment. (Macintosh users will need to click and hold rather than right-clicking.)
    4. Choose "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..."
    5. In the new window, save the attachment as a file. Note the name and destination of the file so that you can find it later.
    6. Once you've finished downloading, click the "Done" button.

    Messages containing an attachment box:

Depending on the type of file you've received, you'll be given one of two options:

    *

Scan and Download Attachment: Click on this link to scan the file for viruses before downloading to your computer. If a virus is found, Yahoo! will automatically clean the file. If a virus threat is not detected, click on "Download Attachment." The attachment will either open automatically or a dialog box will appear requesting that you either open the file from its current location or save the file. If you choose to save the file, be sure to note the name and destination of the file so that you can find it later.
    *

View Attachment: Click on this link if you wish to view the file online without launching the associated program. Once you're finished looking at the file, you'll be able to navigate back to your original email message. From there, you can choose to scan your file for viruses, download it, or delete the entire message.

Security note: It is generally recommended that you don't download attachments or other files from a source you don't know and trust, and that you use one of the many antivirus programs now available. Following these suggestions should reduce your likelihood of experiencing trouble from computer viruses.

try enabling scripts on your browser, update to the latest your drivers as well. if still nothing happens, then you need a clean re-install.
before doing, make a backup first.
uninstall completely ym on your computer, and download a clean version.

I cannot view other webcam in yahoo messenger, always not connected.

Webcam not Connected ( to your Messenger ) can usually be overcome by setting your Messenger Internet Connection

MESSENGER INTERNET CONNECTION

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'No proxies' or 'Connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes, If not change them > Apply > OK

Obi cam wont work in messenger

If you see a black screen when broadcasting your webcam:
There may not be enough light in the room. If so, illuminate the room appropriately.
Your camera may not be functioning properly. Try your camera with the manufacturer's software.
The correct camera may not be selected by Yahoo! Messenger. To change your camera source:
1. Click the "Messenger" menu in Yahoo! Messenger and select "Start My Webcam."
2. Click the "Messenger" menu in Yahoo! Messenger and select "Preferences."
3. Click the "Webcam" category.
4. Click the "Camera Source" button.
5. Click the pull-down menu and select the desired camera.
6. Click the "OK" button.
If you see a black screen when viewing a friend's webcam:
Check the status message at the bottom of your viewer window. If it says "Stopped," the person broadcasting has stopped broadcasting images. Ask the person to resume broadcasting and try viewing again.
If the person is in fact broadcasting and you still see a black screen in your viewer, ask them to check their camera and take the webcam compatibility test.
