Hp laserjet 3600dn driver - Cannot use on 2003 server
A customer wanted us to recreate the print queue of their network printer. When I went to install the drivers it died and would not complete. I have used every driver that HP has listed on their site. Do you have any ideas?

Driver could be corrupt. Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

Which OS is this? If its on Windows 2003 or 2008 server then using the print management console as opposed to the start > printers option should resolve this issue. Print console can be found under admin tools in the start menu
Apart from the print drivers setup, there is the print server which usually hangs due to overflow for requests.The priority of the print plays a major role here as the highest priority print occupies the first place, and thereby prolongs the successive prints and due to the volume of the network it hangs.
Restart the print server and delete the prints in the queue
Restart the printer as well and check the spool process

Description LPR (line printer remote) is a platform independent printing protocol that is associate with TCP/IP. It works by using LPR client software that communicates to a server running LPR services.
In terms of PSU, LPR printing will become the basis for all network printing while Novell print queues are phased out. Therefore, all Macintosh, Windows, and Unix computers will be configured to print through LPR.
· The name of LPR print queue. This can be found by searching the LPR printer database.
· LaserWriter print drivers version 8.5.1 or newer
· The Macintosh must have a working TCP/IP networking configuration. (If the Mac can browse the web then it's working.)
· a server running LPR services or a printer that supports LPR printing. Most HP LaserJet printers support LPR. However, only the following LaserWriters support LPR printing:
1.Open up the Applications folder from the OS X menu. 2.Open up the Utilities folder 3.Now open up the Print Center 4.If you have no printers installed you will see the following screen. Click on Add. 5.On the following screen, select LPR printing. 6.Now enter printhost.oit.pdx.edu for the LPR Printer's address. 7.Uncheck Use Default Queue on Server option and enter the queue name of the printer. 8.Select the printer model. 9.The completed settings should be similar to the following: (LPR Printer’s address is the ip of our PRINTSERVER) 10.Click on Add 11.Your printer has successfully been installed. Test the printer by printing something to it.
I had the same problem with HP 1018 printer, when I had two computers connected to a domain and had Windows XP SP3 on them and when I shared the printer on one of them - I could only print from the network if the user belonged to the Local Administrators group on the host/server computer. Once the network user is removed from Administrators - the print jobs are stuck in print queue. I used the "HP LaserJet Host Based Print Driver Package" that is on HP web site for HP laserjet 1018 printer.
Then I tried to use a different driver for that printer and was successful with driver for HP LaserJet 1020. After forcing that printer to use the 1020 drivers, the regular users were able to print to that printer.
