thank you tvdave for the help sorry it took so long for reply, yes the hole is the bluish green allthough it is smaller than i indicated little bigger than a pencel lead,if it is burn in the crt tube how did it happen and can i prevent this in the future.

When you say "greenish" could it be a mixture of blue and green?

If so, this would indicate that it is a burn spot in the red crt. The absence of red would make the spot color blue/green

Is the spot a particular color, or is it black?

There is really nothing you can do to prevent this. For some reason(unknown to me) the crt apparently arced at some point and burned the phosfor in the tube. This could happen due to carbon build-up inside the tube, but there is nothing you did or can do to prevent it. It could be just a fault in the tube. Sorry, but you are stuck with the spot unless you replace the crt. I have seen this in older Hitachi and Zenith sets. Sometimes all three tubes arc and you end up with 3 different color spots.

You have dust on your projector, you should be able to take the screws out around the screen, lean the screen away from the tv, and wipe dust off the projector

It shows picture not in full screen like the movies black screen at top,in middle is the picture, black screen at bottom

If this happen on DVD's it is because the DVD is formated to Widescreen, 16x9 size, your TV is 4x3 size. Unless the Menu has an option of Picture size, or Format, to set to Full screen. there is nothing you can do other than be sure to check the DVD for picture format size before purchasing.

Couloured spots on screen

Hi
sounds like you have colour impurity problems caused by a magnetic feild being near the Screen. Fist check for any new magnetic feilds nearby. If there have been no new changes, it may also be a faulty PTC device that automatically degausses the tube. When they fail, you will get problems with impurities by way of coloured spots on the screen.
Try disconnecting the set off at the wall for 30 mins, this will initiates the auto degauss process. If all is ok, the spots will be gone. If not, you will need to have someone handy with a soldering iron that is also familiar with TV repair to replace the PTC for you.

Please rate this solution. Happy to answer any other questions you may have. Cheers.

Sony KP-41S3U

Good Day;
On that model look for a small yellow cap, half the size of coin, dime. LOOK very closely and you will see a small burnt spot on the cap. The TV uses about 4 of them, they are 120/110 @ 2 kv. There are located in the high voltage circuit.
This the most common, it could be flyback or HV devider.
Good Luck and Day, big irish.
LET ME know.

I'll give it a try, but just so everybody is on the same page, this is not a projection TV but a direct view.

There is one slot on the back of the set that looks something like a hole about the size of the end of a hat pin with a slanting line going about 40 degrees to the left then ending with another hole about half the size of the first one, so I guess there could be 2 adjustments in there. I just didn't want to futz with it in case it was something that could do something I might not be able to undo.

I would definitely say you have a heating up problem, im guessing either the convergance ic are heating up or HOT or horz output or a capacitor, you could try spraying freeze (radio shack carries it) when the problems starts showing up to isolate the problem.

Problem with wacthind dvd in full screen and black dot on screen

Not sure I understand the half of the tv and half of the dvd player. Are you saying about mid way of your set is cut off and like the bottom half you have a picture and the top no picture? I can explain the dot, first you can open back of set and maybe take off hole back bezel. Get where you can put your head down in front of C R T's (tubes) and look down in them and see if you see the same thing in one or all three of the tubes. If so this explain the dot. The half problem sounds like vertical is missing. Not sure yet! Need feed back
