Question about Mitsubishi WD-52631 52" Projection HDTV

No video. Sound OK

The unit is a Mitsubsihi 1080P, Model 52631 HDTV. After turning it on, the sound is good but their is no picture. The lamp indicator light is red. The question is two-fold. The unit is only about two and one-half years old. Is is normal to have to replace the lamp after so short a time and is the lamp my only problem or could there be something more of which I am not aware?

    We have the same problem here at the fire house. Our TV is 1 1/2 years old though. We just finished paying for this TV from our own pockets last month also.

    I have a similar issue to this one, but with a different symptom. The unit is nearly 3 years old. Turning the unit on displays no picture, I have sound though. The unit revs up (if any of you understand that - basically I mean to say the start up sounds like the fan, I assume, begin to whirl and hum), but then the sound in the TV, as opposed to the TV speaker audio, gives the impression that the fan fails. It whirls, hums, then fails. It does this about three times over the course of a under a minute, then the TV shuts off. The other curious symptom is that I have no red indicator light appear when the TV shuts off. I read in the manual that a red indicator light would indicate a bulb needing replacement, but with no indicator light, I'm clueless.

    I called a certified repair center near me and they advised the following:

    1- Unplug the set for 2 minutes
    2- Plug the TV into a power source
    3- Turn on the TV
    4- Allow the TV to do it thing (as I described above)
    5- When the TV shuts off, simultaneously push down the Input and Menu buttons on the TV for about 5 or 6 seconds. Doing this should trigger a response from the indicator lights.

    This is what I saw: The Timer light flashed in a 6-times blinking pattern 10 times. So it was flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash, pause. This would repeat 9 more times.

    I'm curious if anyone is familiar with this troubleshooting step and what it indicates. I wasn't able to do this live with the repair man over the phone since I'm usually working every day and by the time I get out from work, the repair shops are closed.

    Hello there. I have a Mitsubishi WD-5261 DLP which has a similar problem. After 2 1/2 years it won't start. Each time I try to start it, the sound comes on and the fans cyle three times, but no picture. Almost every time when it shuts down, after the third attempt, no fault LED lights or blinks on the front of the set. However, a few times the red LAMP LED came on and stayed on. Multiple attempts of unplugging, attemting to start, and after shut down, pressing the INPUT and MENU keys for 8 seconds, displayed no flashing fault codes - all the lights are dark.
    I subsequently opened the back of the unit, bypassed the door interlock and noticed that each time it attempts to start, the lamp flashes sever times, but does not come on. Most of the time it's 5-6 dim flashes, but sometimes the flashes are much brighter - looking like it will catch, but does not. The question I have is, is it the lamp or the ballast? Some posts say the ballast is weak and can't start the lamp, others say it's the lamp. Also, why am I not getting any fault codes? Thank you in advance for any help on this subject.

I felt it would be best to re-post on this to give some closure. Most people post their problems and after the fix has been applied, people who are in the same boat never hear if a fix worked or not. It ended up just being the lamp bulb. I purchased a replacement bulb on eBay, did the removal of the bad bulb and install of the new one via the aid of a video provided by the reseller. It took about 10 minutes over all to fix and I'm happy to say that my TV is working just fine.

How can you diagnose a failed lamp in a Mitsubishi DLP WD 52631

Remove the lamp and do a visual inspection.
If this is a DLP you may have a bad color wheel! whistling sound is a sign of color wheel.

I have a mitsubishi wd-52631 and the red light is solid I just cleaned out the tv and got a new bulb but when I turn the tv on I get about 2 mins of picture and sound before it turns off. Does any one know...

It is possible either did not get all the dirty areas in front, and rear of set cleaned out or even that the ballast for the unit is this problem since it powers the lamp---lamp will come on and then turn off for a number of reasons.

The set does have a self diagnostic feature which usually is:

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and getthe regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons togetherfor about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.
Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filtercover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cablebetween FMT and Engine disconnected

If you google the model number and lamp you should get a better price and usually get one in just a few days.

My Misubishi WD-52631 DLP TV is off sudenly. I turn it on again, but no picture, no sound, nothing happened. I reset it, nothing happends. the green power light blinks for a while, then shut off itself....

WD-52631 Audio works, but no picture

Probably a bad lamp. This is the first thing I would try....especially if the lamp has not been re[placed in awhile.

WD-52631 Red Light-No Picture, still have Sound

unplug it from the wall, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. i had the same problem and this simple solution worked for me. Good Luck!!!!
