Yes, The pink tint is an indication that the backlight is failing. Now the backlight is basically dead, the best way to get back going is to do an Ebay search for your model laptop and get a new screen. Most screens can be purchased for around $50.00 - $70.00 and they are very easy to swap. Email me if you need more info.
Going though your computer settings will not adjust the black parts on the screen,
What you need to do is adjust the settings on the screen, if there are no buttons on the screen you may need to read your manual.
The monitor, since it is under warranty is best to be examined by an authorized personnel or replaced. As for your laptop, I dont suppose it has a problem. Only that it should have been configured to send display to the external source once plugged. There are 3 options
Native + External
Your laptop is configured for the 3rd option. You can change this by getting into display properties and under your graphics card configuration. Please do comment if you need further assistance
Your new LCD is faulty. The band on your old one is the end of it I am affraid.
Laptop LCD's although built to take a beating (or so it seems) are extremely fragile. It only take a very small drop to end their lives.
