Question about GE GSL22JFPBS Side by Side Refrigerator

Back of freezer ices up and the freezer

About 8 weeks ago, every few weeks ice started accumulating on the back of my freezer. When this happened, everything in the freezer thawed and my refrigerator temperature got warmer. I had been unplugging the unit, allowing the ice to melt and replugging to get it to work for a few more weeks. I have found that I can tell by the sound of the freezer when it's starting to fail again, so I've been unplugging and replugging the unit so it doesn't ice up.
Another note, iI had a handy man help with kitchen/dining room remodeling that claimed to know about electric. Prior to my refridgerator acting up, He put my refrigerator and microware on an extension cord to another breaker that also serviced muliple lights and power sockets.

The back of my freezer ices up, then the frig won't cool. I manually defrost it, but after a few days the same thing happens.

You most likely have a burnt out defrost heater. The most common part number is WR51X10053, but if you comment back with your exact model number I can confirm that for you. To fix it, you will need to remove the shelves in the freezer so you can take the back wall out. Defrost all the coils by unplugging as you have, or use a hair blower. The defrost heater is along the very bottom of the coils and has a wire connected to each side of it.

the water is coming from the freezer when is defrosts. the drain line is in the back wall of the freezer and may be clogged up with ice. clean out the freezer and pour some hot water in the very back of the freezer, this will hopefully unclog the drain. if not, then you have to take the back wall out of the freezer to get directly to the drain line. there should just be a couple screws holding it; it is just an aluminum or plastic panel.

Hi, I have an Electrolux French door fridge. the freezer keeps developing ice over the back panel and then the freezer shuts down. I have turned the whole unit off for 36 hrs to defrost and then turn it...

You have a defrost issue causing frost/ice accumulation on the back panel of the freezer and stopping air flow across the low side.
When this happens the air flow is stopped to the fresh food and its gets warmer by the day until it is finally defrosted. What is your model #???

Water dripping inside KTLA22EMSS01

Your freezer actually cools your fridge. It sounds like you have ice build up in your freezer behind the back panel. You should be able to unscrew the back wall inside your freezer. A hair dryer should help defrost or keep it open for a few and use a screwdriver to remove the build up of ice. The ice has made its way down the vent and when it hits the fridge it is above 32 degrees so it is melting. Hope this helps. I manage rental properties and have had it happen on a few occasions.

ice formation depends in part on how often and for how long door is open but also worthwhile checking the door seal with a slip of paper trapped between seal and cabinet

Bottom of freezer icing with thick sheet of ice

you have a froen drain thats why it is allways getting ice on the floor. you need to remove as much as you can then remove the back of the freezer so you can clear the drain pan and clear the drain. its not hard to do just you will have a lot of water on the bottom and your floor maybe. once you remove the ice from the pan have some very hot water and pour it in the pan utill the drain is free and the water go's down into the drip pan. shut the unit off untill tour done and be carefull around the coils. once its clear put the back on and plug the fridge back in. you will now have no more ice build up. make sure there is no food back there that can block the drain either. its a god time to clean the freezer out
