Needing special diagnostic plug in tool

On the gss22jemdbb GE refrigerator under a hinge cap on the freezer sie is a 4 hole plug. I am being told there is a instrument that when plugged in will diagnose problem by scanning all the components. Is this true and if so what and where can I find one?

I want to find this tool. my knowledge is broad but I would like this tool if it exists.

  • eric_watson Jan 07, 2009

Then tell me what the plug under the hinge cap is for? The plug is external. The hinge cap is the only thing hiding it.

Then tell me what the plug I saw under the hinge cap is for.

Hi there
The testing unit is not available to the public and only qualified service engineers have them.
As far as i am aware the the plug under the cap is for diagnostic purposes.
The only other caps i know of are for draining excess water

Good luck and kind regards

I think there is no that kind of tools;
some tools are like... multimeter, or ohmz meter need to find the problem.

To start , unplug the refrigerator toreset the panel, if you still get the error test and check the part, and eventually replace it.

That plug is for the technician to do tests. You need to check the plug under the hinge cap at the top of the door, on ***** holds it on

How to flip a door on freezer

The door hinges usually can be made to open either right or left handed. Look on top of the freezer to see if there are metal caps covering the screw holes in the cabinet. Same for the door handle. If you find them just remove the caps, remove the screws and move the hinge to the other side. Use the caps to cover the holes left from the original position of the hinge. Same for the door. If there are no indication of the extra holes in the cabinet, then fliping the door is impossible.

How do you get the doors off? I still have the plastic stuck under them.

Hello Katiewachter,

I understand that you want to remove the doors from your Kenmore refrigerator. I would be glad to help you with this you will need a few tools to do this here is a list of the tools you will need.

Flat screw driver
Philips Screw driver
1/4 nut driver or socket and ratchet
5/16 nut driver or socket and ratchet

1. On the top of the fridge there are little plastic caps on the corners next to the doors of the fridge. There is a screw in the middle you will need to remove this screw in order to get to the hinge.
2. Under this cap there will be 2 or three screws and a quick connect of wires. You will want to disconnect the wire connector it should have a lock you push together and then pull apart.
3. Once wires are disconnected removed the screw hold the door as this is the top hinge.
4. Lift the door and that door is removed
5. Repeat for the other side

The Freezer Door
1. Open the door and notice the drawer that slides with it there are four screws that attach the door to the drawer
2. Loosen the screws so that the door can be lifted up and the door is removed

Reattach the doors by reversing the directions.

How do I change the door from left hand to right hand opening

on the top right hand side of the refrigerator you should see little screw cover caps,, also on the door and on the bottom of the door. remove these caps -- now remove the screws that hold the hinges for the door and just switch everything over to the other side. everything is a mirror image of the other side --- where there is a screw that holds the hinge on one side -- there will be a screw hole on the other side that is covered by a finish cap,,, same thing with the hinge pin hole. tighten everything up and use the finish caps to plug up the now exposed holes and there you go -- right hand opening door.
if you have any troubles -- just write me back here and I will do my best to walk you through it.

I mant to reverse the opening swing of my refrigerator doors

You have to remove the doors, swap the hinges to the other side. Start by taking the top hinge off the freezer door (pop the plastic cover off the hinge to reveal the screws). If it has handles (some don't) you will need to swap them over as well. The screws are under plastic covers on the ends. There will be plastic plugs in the holes that will need to be removed and placed into the holes you took the screws out of. This is assuming your model has reversible doors. Most do, but some don't.

I want to switch the doors from left to the right side

Hi, The parts are interchangeable (hinges & handles)
You should have some small plastic plugs/caps that are covering the holes already drilled for the change. Once you remove the doors and then remove the plugs, just reinsert the plugs into the old holes and switch hinges and door handles to the opposite spots.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks

You'll need to remove the top hinge cover from whatever side it is on currently and then lift the door off the hings post ( set the door aside) .. then the top of the fridge will have small removable caps that hide the nuts for where you fasten the hinge to that side. Reinstall those caps to hide the holes in the top of the fridge where the hinge used to be. Next, you will have to transfer the handle on the door to the opposite side ( same process as the hinge) .. You wil find small plastic caps that hide the holes you'll be using to secure the handle to the opposite side,. use the same process for the freezer door too..This process only applies to top/bottom type freezers and not side by side. Hope that helps
